MTV drops the "Music Television" from its logo and parties like its 1994

http://flavorwire.com/68793/theres-n...-mtvs-new-logo

Perhaps taking a note from AOL (nay, Aol.?), MTV is updating their logo for the first time in 30 years in the hopes of appealing to those pesky millennials. Frank Olinsky and his team at Manhattan Design created the original, which gave the network a lot of flexibility: they could play around with the colors/materials of the “M” while maintaining brand identity.

The new logo will feature revolving imagery housed within the iconic design — and drops the “music television” tagline altogether. [Insert joke about the last time you turned on MTV and saw a music video here.]

It represents a new visually defined MTV, stimulating its past, present and future and embracing it’s diversity. Everything from Jersey Shore, to the VMAs to collaborations with the MoMA. The logo is part of MTV’s re-invention to connect with today’s millennial generation and bring them in as part of the channel.

So what do you think? Does this reboot better reflect the brand’s current identity? Or are they futzing around with something that was sacred?

I think 1994 was the last time MTV showed a music video.

Why not just replace the 'M' with an 'R' ... and while they are at it, stop doing those horrid 'music' award shows since the network hasn't had anything to do with music in nearly 2 decades.
Lets not even start with 'Video Hits 1' ... how about 'RTV2'

That isn't a new logo... it's the old logo with pictures superimposed over it. Okay, and they dropped the words from the bottom but there have been variations with that change used occasionally before this. I'm not complaining though, I'm kind of glad they didn't do something drastic and stupid (SyFy).

3 - JJ Jackson is indeed dead, but I saw him EmCee Hall & Oates at the Cincinnati Gardens in 1984 (or 85) on their Big Bam Boom tour.

4 - To this day I have a crush on Martha Quinn... but I know I'm not alone in that.

It's sort of fitting that MTV doesn't play music anymore, since these days "music" has little to do with actual music and more of projecting an aspirational lifestyle. Beyonce and Jay-Z are really no different than Paris Kardashian. It's all about putting out an image of wealth and fashion and attitude; that you have "musicians" making disposable junk that's going to be deleted off of someone's iPod in a couple of months is just a means to that end.

True, but they also 'hit the post' and talk straight through the music.

What drives me crazy is that other music channels have got away from playing music videos too! VH1 Classic, which has been my MTV of all the great video's from the 80's had on 'Three Men and a Baby' last night????? Would someone out there just play music videos 24/7.....

Re: MTV drops the "Music Television" from its logo and parties like its 1994

I clicked on that link to see the logo and saw an article about someone covering Rancid's Ruby Soho. Turns out Vampire Weekend put out a cover, and it might be the worst song I've ever heard: http://stereogum.com/mp3/Vampire%20W...20Cover%29.mp3

The logos really suck as well, I feel old.
