Spartacus: Blood and Sand -- "Legends" -- 02/05/10

Spartacus

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
As the gladiators prep for an important competition that will be the highlight of a festival, Spartacus cleverly maneuvers to secure the right to battle Crixus, the unbeaten champion of Capua, in the main event. Despite Lucretia's objections, Batiatus reminds her that Spartacus' bravery and previous exploits have "struck a chord with the public's interest." Meanwhile, Crixus is desired by a number of noblewomen, but he is enamored of one of Lucretia's slaves.

As I mentioned in last week's thread, I think some of you who haven't really enjoyed the 1st 2 episodes are viewing this from the wrong perspective. It's definitely not meant to have any serious period drama value. I think it's pretty obvious this show is much more of a graphic novel/comic and is trying to appeal to that audience.

It's definitely turned into a guilty pleasure for me.

I understand it's being done in a 300 style, but it seems like the show is split between people being killed and people humping each other.

Or we just think the first two episodes were really bad

I enjoyed 300, and was expecting something similar, but it hasn't even lived up to that so far. I don't see how anyone could have watched the previews for this and thought this was going to be another Rome, it was pretty apparent they were going for style over substance.

I'm sticking it out for now because the reviews have said it starts to pick up now with episodes 3 and 4.

This show seems to get better with each episode. No male junk was a plus this week. No naked Xena was a negative. I'll stick with it for a while and see what happens.

The "inside the helmet" camera shots were one of the dumbest things I've ever seen It looked like they were just making faces with a box on their head.

I thought it was an improvement over last week
