Caprica -- "Reins of a Waterfall" -- 02/05/10

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Amanda's public admission about Zoe's role in the bombing ignites a media backlash against the Graystones and creates tension for Lacy at school. Elsewhere, Sam and Joseph confront Daniel while Zoe plots her next move.

I just got caught up with episode 2 today and I liked it. It's been over 6 months since I saw the Pilot so it took me alot of time to refresh my memory on the characters. The story telling was a little slow and I thought they spent a little too much time focusing on Zoe's being adjusting to the Cylon body. Other than that, it's a very well produced drama with Science Fiction elements.

I didn't realize that Polly Walker was on this. I did not see Rome, but I did see her in Cane from a few years ago on CBS. It looks like she put on a few pounds.

I think the pilot was amazing. The rebirth episode was OK but the ending made me ask where the hell are they gonna go from this? I like the holoband stuff the most. I love the opening.

The Opening sequence is really cool. The score is very similar to BSG with the drums.

I'm enjoying the series much more than the pilot, especially the glimpses of colonial society. Where can I buy a Buc's jersey?

I didn't know why the opening felt so familiar last week, but last night I realized how much it reminds me of Carnivale's opening:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0CYMXoX-b0o&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0CYMXoX-b0o&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ol_6UZh9JoM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ol_6UZh9JoM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Anyway, I'm not sold on this show yet. I mean, it's fine for what it's been, but I'm not sure if it's what I expected. I'm really getting annoyed that the other father is actually Joseph Adama instead of anyone else. It would have been cool to bring in Adama as defense for the Graystones later, but I digress.

I did  at Zoebot's eye looking away from her parents.

Yeah, looks like Kat's in at least three episodes this season.

OK episode. Glad they got back to v-world. I like that they're showing there's some division between TSO members. The characters have developed so much already. Not really liking where Joseph is going with this.

Next episode Feb 19 and SGU comes back April 2, so I figure at least six more new episodes. I think they filmed the pilot plus 19 episodes, which makes me wonder if they'll split the season into two dvd sets. That's what they are doing with SGU.

It's the Pilot plus 18 episodes= 19 episode season. I read they were planning to do 20, but the show was getting a little too expensive and SyFy cut them off at 19 and said that has to be the season finale. And yes it's going to be a split season. 10 in the Spring and I assume the last 9 will air later in the summer.

Since I don't have SyFy and USA airs it too damn late, I've been getting the episodes from PSN. I am really loving this show.

I must say I'm really enjoying this series, but it took me almost 2 whole weeks to watch the second episode because IMO the pilot seemed to drag, considerably.

But now I'm hooked in, and yes the intro is awesome!

So the show does pick up after the pilot? I was bored silly at points in the pilot and FF through some of the later Amada family scenes.

I thought this one was much better then last week. Last week seemed to drag on way too much.

I like how Adama's dad is actually a sleazebag.... but that's about all I like.

Other than ridiculously late at night, when else does it air on USA? Cos I don't have SyFy.

I think his uncle is the best character on here.

yeah, I guess, until they pulled the stupid gimmick of, ZOMG, the Uncle is a brute, he's the muscle, he's like friggin' super Italia-- err Tauron, and oh yeah, he's also gay.

Re: Caprica -- "Reins of a Waterfall" -- 02/05/10

I realized why I dont like this show. None of the characters are likeable. The mom is a chore. Zoe's avatar and her best friend are equally annoying as was the original Zoe. Adama is a scumbag. Greyberg seems more like a robot than the cylons he is creating etc etc.

Also why are they finding difficult to create cylons when they already have robots like the house Butler that seem to have fully formed A.I.'s and are capable of performing a multitude of tasks ??

Re: Caprica -- "Reins of a Waterfall" -- 02/05/10

Graystone, not Greyberg.

Since the cops are destroying evidence and mounting an anti-Graystone rumor campaign, I assume that their boss' demand to "find something at the Graystone house" will be taken to mean fabricating evidence if they have to, seeing as how Zoë wasn't involved in the bombing.

I can't help but wonder why they're destroying evidence of the real bomber and going after Graystone instead. Yes, the tape itself is evidence they screwed up, but they could destroy the tape and still investigate the boy without raising suspicion, since he's on the subway surveillance tape.

You can watch it online five days after broadcast, so on Wednesdays. Or you can pay $1.99 for it through iTunes (standard definition).

I haven't watched this episode yet but will on Wednesday. The first three were pretty good though as mentioned in the last thread, the switching between Zoe and the Cylon did get old pretty quickly.

I'm guessing the cops wanna look like heroes taking down someone as untouchable as the Graystones.

Re: Caprica -- "Reins of a Waterfall" -- 02/05/10

Yeah, that's not very hard to figure out. The daughter of the Graystones is a much more enticing suspect than a no-name kid. Especially when you have a confession from the Amanda Graystone and a botched investigation into Ben Stark(e).

It's obvious why the police would go that route. Not even mentioning the possibility of the female cop working with STO to intentionally lose the Ben Stark interrogation tape.

It should be obvious that wasn't a confession, it was supposition. The police themselves don't have any real evidence she was involved. Since the Graystones have been compliant with police requests for interviews, I don't understand why they haven't interviewed the mother yet.

Considering their apparent technological level, I found the use of videotape rather than silicon amusing.

I still have no idea what Zoë's mom thought she was accomplishing by accusing her daughter.

pinata242 02-08-10 02:57 PM

Re: Caprica -- "Reins of a Waterfall" -- 02/05/10

Confession was a poor choice of word, clearly she can't confess to something she didn't do. Accusation/revelation is all the public needs, clearly.

Obviously their justice system is highly corrupt (based on Adama's conversation with the Judge). They don't need evidence. They need a name and a conviction.
