Watched this months ago, but I'm looking forward to seeing it again and the start of the series. While my expectations are severely tempered, I will try to enjoy it for what it is. I can always forget it exists

It's getting 19 episodes and will have a split season. I believe the 1st 10 episodes will run through March or April, then the show will take a break and Stargate Universe will return.
I totally disagree with Slop, this was a really well made Pilot. Esai Morales and Eric Stoltz were awesome.
I also read that they added some new scenes that are different from the DVD.

I'm guessing a lot of the "virtual reality" party scenes will get butchered to hell to make it safe for airing. Hopefully they shot alternate "clean" takes instead of relying on editing.

I'd say it's like any other prequel: you're getting in on the ground floor of the timeline, but won't appreciate all the references.
If you know the basic plot of BSG (old or new), I don't think you should have any problem keeping up.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Battlestar Galatica was the one with the kid and the giant talking teddy bear, right?

A related question. If I'm in the middle of season 3 of BSG, will this spoil anything?

There is nothing in this Pilot that will spoil Battlestar Galactica. It takes place 50 years before the fall of Caprica.

I think I'm going to wait on this. While I really liked BSG, what I saw of this made it look like a soap opera with some sci-fi sprinkled in.

Well I set the season pass and will start once I get finished with he BSG dvds... Got enough shit sitting on the dvr and so I can wait to finish, but looking forward to it. I have to say though, waiting for and watching shows on dvd is growing so much more satisfying over watching the episodes as they air on tv.

I wouldn't expect this to get too spoilery for the series proper, unless they start bringing in the "Final Five." (Though I'm fairly certain that those characters didn't come into the picture until well after the timeframe that Caprica takes place in.)
I'm still not sure if this is supposed to be a 100% prequel to Battlestar Galactica, or if they're just using the milieu from the series and will go off in their own direction. With Moore and Eick involved, I tend to go more with the former.
