Just finished S4 on Showtime on Demand as I just got a freebie 3 mos subscription, the whole season gets removed from On Demand on 6/22 for me, so I plowed through.
Fantastic season, and Lithgow was phenomenal. Just hand him the Emmy now.
I am going to have to pony up for Showtime for S5 now!

I love Dexter but its too bad that Showtime as a network absolutely sucks. They hardly ever play any decent movies and most of their series aside from Dexter are just so-so. I enjoyed Weeds for the first couple seasons but never cared for anything else they put out.

So someone recorded a sneak peak of season 5 at Comic Con. Crappy quality, but it's still footage. This just excites me for season 5 even more.

Really? Showtime is probably one of the most watched stations in my house. There's Dexter, Weeds (which I'll admit, both me and the gf are growing tired of), United States of Tara, Nurse Jackie, Bullshit and Californication are all really good to great shows. I've found I'm most willing to try out a new show if it's on Showtime.

I've been watching all the seasons of Dexter as fast as I could and I just finished season 4 and WOW. I was lucky enough to avoid spoilers. All I knew about the season was that there was going to be a twist ending... but this was a fucking game changer. The next season of Dexter should be completely different, probably much darker and more intense.
I know Rita was an annoying character but she made Dexter "good" and I thought it was brilliant how they made it seem that Dexter was going to settle into his family life and get rid of the "dark passenger" and then at the very end they just rip that dream away from him.
I think it's only a matter of time before Deb finds out about Dexter, she's getting awfully close.
That was one hell of a fucking season.
Really looking forward to next season. Thankfully I only have a 3 week wait.

As for Season 5, since I don't get Showtime - it's either going to be waiting for the DVD set to come out or watching it on a torrent.
I kind of got the idea that Debbie seemed "satisfied" with what she found out and told Dexter and I don't see her going any further with it.

this question may have already been asked, as I haven't had a chance to read through all this yet....
just finished watching last night...one question - was Dexter hiding in the backseat of Arthur's car? Because Arthur wasn't followed by another car, so I'm wondering how Dexter got on a deserted road.
Also, how did Dexter have a chance to remove the oil cap from Arthur's car when the car was in an auto shop?

As for the oil cap, Dexter probably just waited until the auto shop finished its work, pulled the car around the shop and parked it before contacting the owner to pick it up. While it was parked there waiting to be picked up, he popped the hood, removed the oil cap, and then hid in the trunk.

I haven't started Season 5 yet (don't got no shotime, have to wait for DVD's), but I'm sure Dex felt guilt about not snapping Arthur's neck in the van at the bank when he had a chance, and then just laying low until the cops left, then drove Arthur's van someplace else.
I'm sure he feels responsible for Rita.

Re: Dexter -- "The Getaway" -- 12/13/09
I watched this tonight and was a little disappointed. Unfortunately I had read about the ending a few months ago which definitely took the shock and impact out of it.
The whole episode just seemed too rushed. I think they should have given it a little extra time and had at least one other episode. And as others have pointed out, there are just too many spots where you have to throw rationality to the wind. Dexter really was able to get in a guy's trunk while also also being able to get under the hood while at a body shop? The car just happens to break down that evening on a deserted road? The swat team just happens to arrive immediately after Dexter arrives and there was no stake out? Trinity finds just one D. Morgan in Miami? And Dexter and/or Deb would actually have their info in the phone book? Julie Benz shows no boobies while in the bathtub?
It all just seemed so rushed for a season that seemed so good at taking it's time on the rest of the episodes. I have to say that the chick who played Deb really outdid herself this season. The episode where she breaks down in the parking lot after Lundy's death really got to me. Lithgow kicked serious ass all season and Hall was excellent as usual.
I actually would have rather seen Dexter end and him trying to make a go at a normal life but they will likely bleed the series dry (no pun intended). Is it really true that the newest season is it's last or are they backing off of that?
