Wow, major soaps used to be bulletproof. Imagine spending your entire acting career with a steady job and losing it

Eric Braeden mentioned recently that the people who have found themselves in control of the soaps seem to want to kill the genre completely.

Additionally, an actor with a steady job on a soap for decades should easily be financially set, provided they aren't a moron when it comes to money.

My mother, too. She's watched it since the '50s. I used to watch it with her when I was younger. I felt bad having to call her with the cancellation news.

This was one of the shows interrupted with the first bulletins out of Dallas upon the Kennedy assassination, 11/22/63.

R.I.P.

I keep hearing that Days is in trouble too.

Days actually has more viewers than it did a year ago. I think it is safe... for now.

Commentaries for every single episode.

Fast forward to college and one day this is on and the guy pops up. I turn to my mom and say, "Didn't that guy die like 15 years ago?!" She promptly responds with a, "Yeah, but he's back. Faked his death." Badass!

Found this clip.

Liked the end where they were asking if the coffin locked from the outside.

Probably because they brought some old favorites back like Carly and Vivian.

Yeah, but they got rid of big-time favorites like John and Marlena. Go figure.

It's a shame all these shows are dying. They really are a piece of Americana and connect generations of viewers. No other TV shows will ever again run 50+ years.

I feel for the veteran actors of ATWT and the actors of the recently canceled Guiding Light. There are several soap actors who have done well financially and have had steady careers from being on soaps. I remember reading an article in Soap Opera Digest that about a few unnamed actors who didn't manage their finances well. With the soap genre slowly dying there will be lesser springboards for new actors and actresses. Soaps have been a great start for many people.

Not surprising to hear Comrade Cronkite implicate right wing conservatives within the first 15 minutes of the gunfire.

I too fondly remember a college summer break of the then adorable Ms Ryan.
