Glee -- "Once Upon A Mattress" -- 12/02/09

Spoiler:
When the Glee Club is left out of the yearbook because of budget cuts, everyone seems to be relieved that they won't have to suffer the ridicule of years past. That is, everyone except Rachel, who wants her legacy cemented in print. Meanwhile, Quinn makes it her mission to be in the Cheerios yearbook photo, and Will and Terri's relationship is shaken to its core.

Alright, I was disappointed to discover that Dianna Agron's cover of Papa Don't Preach is only 1:09 on Itunes....which was the same length you saw on the broadcast.

The same way they did Puck's "Sweet Caroline". Plus, the version on the cd didn't have the cast doing the "dah-dah-dah"s like they did on the show. Bogus.

Total bogus, you mean to tell me the producers of the song/show couldn't have Dianna and the guitarist record for 2-3 more minutes?

I also noticed yesterday that Dianna's version of Papa Don't Preach was short. I thought she sounded great singing that song.

Not that that is a singer's song but I thought it showed the limitations of her voice. She was better with Dionne Warwick's "I Say a Little Prayer."

Oh my. That "Jump" number was the worst and quite possibly gayest thing I've ever seen.

I didn't care for the Jump number either. I'm glad that Will found out the truth about Terri.

Holy tonal shift, Batman! I thought Will was going to gut-punch Teri just out of spite.

Another great episode.

Loved the commercial. They seriously looked like they were having fun. And if I were Will I probably would have decked both Terri and Sue during this episode.

Can't wait for the finale and I really cannot believe Fox is shelving one of their "hottest" shows for 4 months. Dumb dumb dumb.

Well, it was a TV commercial, so I think they're allowed a little gayness. How about the offensive line dancing to "All The Single Ladies"?

Speaking about the "Jump" number...I know it's just a show and everything, but was it really a good idea to have a handicapped person being bounced around on a mattress/trampoline? Isn't something like that a little...oh, I don't know...risky? I don't know the extent of Arnie's injuries, but I know he wasn't born handicapped. It was the result of an accident.

Matthew Morrison's acting was very intense in the confrontation scene with Terri. He looked sort of scary.

Too bad Will didn't watch Sons of Anarchy last night, should have given her the Stahl treatment

"Smile" was the first Rachel song I didn't care for. Mostly because I love the original, and adding Finn really ruined it.

I, for one, loved Jump. Everyone I was watching the show with was dying.

Shue's getting pissed reminded me of Deep Space 9 when
Spoiler:
Sisko realized that Garak had blown up the Romulan ship.
Just an amazing performance.

Re: Glee -- "Once Upon A Mattress" -- 12/02/09

Thought it was a weak episode with the photo plot til Will found out about Terri.

Will scared even me.
Terri was pretty good in that scene as well. The second dramatic scene between Sue and him was pretty intense. I thought for sure it would come to blows.

As for songs, I really liked SMILE but never heard it before. JUMP was kinda fun.

The ending with the other students still defacing the Glee Club picture was sad.

Re: Glee -- "Once Upon A Mattress" -- 12/02/09

Matthew Morrison was amazing in this episode. The scene with Jessalyn Gilsig was really intense.

I'm really starting to like Quinn as a character much more than Rachel. Loved how she stood up to Sue.

The reason for the 4 month hiatus is because FOX originally only planned Glee to be a "Fall" series and episode 13 was supposed to be the season finale and I assume the writers/producers of the show weren't expecting a back 9 order. All these episodes were shot and completed during the summer and they aren't scheduled to resume production on episodes 14-22 until January. Plus, there is also a lack of timeslots right now with a few midseason shows scheduled to premiere next month.

I know that, but the fact is that Fox can do whatever they want to do, and from about episode 3 they knew they had a solid hit on their hands. They should have changed their plans.

Check out the original (Nat King Cole). It's one of my all-time favorite songs.

Re: Glee -- "Once Upon A Mattress" -- 12/02/09

I was thinking a cool ending to this episode would be if we saw tight shots of hands holding pens clearly defacing yearbook photos, then cut to wide shot to reveal that it was the Glee kids defacing the photo of the football team.

Re: Glee -- "Once Upon A Mattress" -- 12/02/09

I thought the ending fit into the theme of the show very well: "Smile".

They were either trying to be completely invisible by not being in the yearbook, or becoming celebrities so they would be revered by everyone for a change. But instead, they ended up fitting right into the natural order of things; the same as it has been for years. And no matter what everyone may think of you, and no matter what may happen in your life, you just gotta shrug your shoulders, and keep smilin'.

As much as I have enjoyed hating Sue in previous episodes, I truly hated her this time out, and didn't enjoy it at all. This is not a word I use very often, but Sue truly is a first-class ****. Her "humanizing" moment with her sister is long forgotten, as far as I'm concerned. If she died next episode in a flaming car wreck and they actually showed her burning to a crisp in writhing agony, and then being shot in the head by a cop to put her out of her misery, and then ripped apart by a pack of coyotes vying for her tasty, freshly-cooked flesh, I would probably stand up and cheer.

Okay...maybe not. But I would like to see her get hers.

Not really, because Glee still doesn't delivery more ratings than "24" or 2-4 nights of "American Idol". Perhaps they should have shelved "Fringe" to make room for "Glee" at the start of 2010, but they decided to give the "Glee" producers time for the final back-9 run in the spring of 2010. Who cares, you know you'll be back for more "Glee" in the spring.

Re: Glee -- "Once Upon A Mattress" -- 12/02/09

As long as everyone comes back, that's the main thing. I'd hate to see this show lose momentum like Pushing Daisies did, and everyone just forget about it. I don't know if PD had the same kind of ratings that Glee does, or near the fan base that Glee seems to have, but it could happen. In TV, absence makes the viewer grow distant.

Matthew Morrison is a much better actor than Jessalyn Gelsig - it was evident throughout the confrontation scene.

Once again - I didn't care for any of the music numbers.

Rachel has great legs.
