Very good, the episode just flew by. I used to think the Observers were some sort've angelic creatures, but I'm now revising that to some manner of time travelers who just watch history unfold. I'm probably wrong on both counts and assume the answer is more grounded and interesting.

Did anyone spot the observer this week? I'm usually pretty good at spotting him, but this one stumped me.

Who do you serve, and who do you trust?

Heh, Peter Woodward. He was in "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson. At least that's where I knew him from. He's also Edward Woodward's son.

LOL -- wouldn't it be great if there had been an observer watching all this?

My wife and I watched this last night, we really enjoyed it. A lot of interesting comments by Walter's observer.

So it seems that an Observer interfered somehow and that led to Prime Peter's death. It seems that Peter is vital to this universe, so he was replaced with another one from another realities. This was probably how Bell and other nefarious elements figured out there were other realities.

That's my theory, anyways.

Oh, and Microsoft Sync!

I don't think the Observer killed Peter. It's been implied that Peter had a medical condition, possibly fatal. Early on (maybe in the pilot?), Walter was afraid that Olivia may had seen Peter's file and had to explain about his medical records. He dropped the conversation when it was clear Olivia didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Also, it's pretty well established that the Observer saved them both from drowning.

So-- Peter Prime died from an illness. Missing him, Walter finds a way into the alternate dimension. Remember, their house by the lake has been established as a dimensional "soft-spot". He takes Alt Peter from his dimension, returning to our dimension in the middle of the lake (by accident or necessity). Then the Observer interfered by saving them from drowning.

See, I think that the Observer couldn't save Peter from drowning. I think the Observer indirectly caused the accident that caused that car to go into the water.
