CNN - Casual news anchors and reporters
 

When did news anchormen and women become so casual while they are on the air? CNN's anchors and reporters seem to talk to each other more like gabbing friends than real news people. They giggle and discuss their families, children, and what they did last weekend.

Even presentation during a report is more casual. One reporter last night even described a friend of President Obama's as his "BFF". This was embedded in a serious news piece, not during the banter that often occurs before signing off.

On local stations I think that it started between the anchors and weathermen, and then moved to the morning shows where entire segments are screwing around (I remember Good Day LA which was a clownfest a decade ago). Now this is permeating the evening news shows, too.

I can't wait until 60 Minutes broadcasts an on-air tickle fight.

Because they have 24 hours to fill. ;)

I know the 30 minute nightly newscast is a dinosaur in the internet age, but I still watch my ABC World News every night. I would disagree that, at least from ABCs perspective, that it's gotten "too casual". Gibson rarely does it.

CNN has become a farce. The two biggest flirts are Anderson Cooper and Erica Hill. She's taken, but the way she bats her eyes at him while having small-talk makes one wonder.

QFT and MrX I love that Daily Show bit.

I still watch the NBC Nightly News too, instead of these cable news channels. I don't like all the anchors, but I like that I can see the top news stories in about 10 minutes and call it a day.

I love Erica Hill. She's fantastic. And yes, apparently Cooper is gay, so I don't think that she is his type.

What do you expect? Half the broadcast is already nothing but reading Twitter and Facebook comments. Would you take it seriously?

I do endorse the hot anchorwoman trend though.

Hmmm...trying to remember when the last time was that I watched an evening network news show...has to be at lease thirty years. Network nightly news shows are probably the LAST place I would go to get the news. The only thing worse is local news shows. The cable infotainment shows I don't even consider to be news related.
