JFK: 3 Shots That Changed America (History Channel) (10/11-12/09)

I've seen a lot of shows and documentaries about the JFK assassination but this one has been one of the most compelling. No voice-overs. No modern interviews. This is simply 'as it happened' coverage from news footage, 8mm cameras and other assorted audio/video sources edited together chronologically from around 8:00AM on the morning of the murder through Oswald's death. That's just the first two hours. Part two airs on Monday and deals with the growing conspiracies throughout the years.

Both parts rerun throughout the week.

I was surprised this was so good considering it was on the History Channel. I was waiting for them to mention Nostradamus or the Mayan Apocalypse.

The 2nd two hours are just as amazing as the first two. The last piece of film you see is absolutely brutal and brilliant at the same time. I don't know where that film came from but it's chilling to watch.

Spoiler:
POV shot of the car turning from Houston onto Elm with everyone cheering on. As the car gets to the freeway sign, the film breaks up

I had to laugh watching many of the reporters smoke as they were on the air interviewing witnesses and such. Just a funny reminder how prevalent smoking was at that time.

Recorded both parts and will watch this weekend. Really excited based on the comments of those that have seen it.

I think they should call it "The Speculation Channel".

This is what the history channel should be.

Excellent --- but I think I like part 2 the best. I watched 102 minutes (9/11) and though it was interesting, it was a bit boring as well. The first part of JFK dragged a bit too, but was interesting enough to to keep my attention -- maily because of the time period. In the second part, I liked the way the speculation over who shot JFK grew over the years. I happened to believe some sort of conspiracy, but some of those people who wanted to dig up Oswald were on the fringe.

TONIGHT: JFK -- The First 24 Hours -- which looks like it will be in a similar vein to this.

Over my head I guess.
