Modern Family -- "The Bicycle Thief" -- 9/30/09

Modern Family

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Phil tries to teach Luke a lesson in responsibility; Mitchell and Cameron sign Lily up for Mommy & Me class; Jay and Manny take time out for a father-and-son bonding experiment.

Alright decided to create an episode thread. Guess 4 pages of discussion warranted one. Anyways, looking forward to seeing how this holds up.

"The only thing he has in common with Superman is they both landed in this country illegally"

I loved it when Phil tried to cover Claire's eyes when the MILF was coming down the driveway

I love this show so much.

The dad in the bike situation, I don't know all the names yet, he reminds me of a mix between Michael Bluth and Andy Bernard.

He keeps us grounded.
Like fog at an airport.

I think I just stole a kid's intellectual property.

This is a great show.

I thought this was a bit too formulaic, but the execution was good.

Well, she's ALSO married to a really successful porn director and producer.

You feelin' any better now?

I thought the first episode showed promise, but this one almost put me to sleep.

I'll try this once more next week because I cancelled it tonight for Glee and SVU. I may cancel SVU if Modern Family is good next week, because USA usually re-airs the SVU episodes after a few weeks anyway. The pilot didn't do much for me.

I only laughed when Desiree brought back the bike. Otherwise, eh.

Re: Modern Family -- "The Bicycle Thief" -- 9/30/09

Didn't like the second episode much. It just felt tired and forced. I don't think the whole documentary approach is going to work on this show as it does with "The Office". And (big surprise) the gay couple is getting more cartoonish. The ending, with the one guy talking into the camera and walking away crying, was just embarrassing. And continuing with the "stereotype", did you notice the other gay couple in the baby group? Sorry, but that's getting so old.

The heterosexual couples are over the top and ridiculous. The gay couple is over the top and ridiculous. I fail to see how realism fits in this show. If this were a serious show that shoehorned a cartoonish gay couple into the story, I'd understand the complaints. But a sedate and realistic gay couple has no place in this show.

Re: Modern Family -- "The Bicycle Thief" -- 9/30/09

There were a couple of good lines and moments, but way too slow and predictable. They need to cut the fat and the documentary style. It's a method for delivering jokes out of the context of the story and its drags everything down.

If it was 30 minutes of the "scripted" segments, it would be a lot better.

You've never heard of Motley Crue? Vince Neil is the singer.

I agree with getting rid of the documentary style. It doesn't make any sense in regards to the story. Why would the husband lie about where he lost the bike, when he knows there is a documentary crew filming everything? Does he not think the wife will see the documentary at some point?

Re: Modern Family -- "The Bicycle Thief" -- 9/30/09

I like Al Bundy, and the dorky father is growing on me... but I don't realy like the warm and fuzzy endings. I could do without the gay couple. I just think there is too much going on. There is not enough time for the story to develop of all 3 families in 1/2 hour.

I may stop watching this show.

Re: Modern Family -- "The Bicycle Thief" -- 9/30/09

imdb lists "Desiree" as Krista Allen for this episode. I saw Brandy's name listed in the credits and Krista's tweet clarifies this item,
Just clearing up smthing I was NOT on Modern Family last night. I had to pass on the role. BRANDY LEDFORD, my beautiful friend did the part!

I guess we are stuck with Brandy.
