The Simpsons *Season 21 Premiere* -- "Homer The Whopper" -- 09/27/09

"Homer the Whopper"
Spoiler:
Comic Book Guy casts Homer as the lead in "Everyman," a feature film based on a new comic book superhero who possesses the ability to take on the powers of every superhero in every comic he touches. To whip Homer into superhero shape, the movie studio hires celebrity fitness trainer Lyle McCarthy, but Homer has trouble sticking to his new healthy regimen.

I read it somewhere that he used his experience with the Green Hornet for inspiration.

This episode started out strong, but ended weak. The stuff at the beginning in the Comic Book Shop was gold. The end with Comic Book Guy was good too.

lol @ Eddie Murphy in Fat Suit, Alvin & The Chipmunks: Gettin' Rabies, Welcome Back Potter.

Far from classic Simpsons, but could have been a lot worse.

Who was Seth Rogen in this episode?

I loved the beginning of this episode. Liked the middle. Then it just ran out of steam at the end. Comic Book Guy blogging about the movie was okay. There was just something very rushed about that final scene.

That's been a Simpsons mainstay for years now.

Yeah. They had all that promotion about 20 years of the Simpsons and THIS is the premiere? Not good. Not good at all. FAIL.

As a comic nerd, the "He's not a character from Marvel, DC, Image or Wildstorm" line bothered me. Wildstorm is part of DC. Dark Horse is the 4th of the big four companies.

Maybe they just did it to bug nerds like me. I did like Groening and the Bongo truck.

I didn't think it was too bad. I enjoyed it. It's hard to think it's been 20 years since the Simpsons debuted.

I read previously that Seth was the personal trainer, then forgot about it when watching the episode, then saw the credits and remembered about, so I rewinded my DVR and heard the last dialogue and no, it didn't sound like Seth Rogen, at least not the voice you are used to hear.

For a scene or two I kept thinking it was Jeff Garlin.

They both have the same rough sound to their voice at times I guess.

Re: The Simpsons *Season 21 Premiere* -- "Homer The Whopper" -- 09/27/09

I thought it was decent and I thought Seth sounded like himself pretty much, so I'm surprised to hear a lot of people didn't recognize the voice... the last half wasn't as good as the first but there were a few decent jokes, some good sight gags and it was better than a lot of recent episodes I've seen, so I was pleasantly surprised.
