Re: Survivor: Samoa **Season Premiere** 9/17/09

So you're asked which one on the team is the best swimmer and you choose the black guy? And it just turns out he played water polo in college? What are the chances?

Once again we need to find the uncensored version of Survivor just to see how much of Marissa boobs were hanging out in that first challenge.

I like Russel. Even if you don't want him to win (I don't), you have to admit that a character like that adds intrigue to the cast. Same way Coach did last season.

I agree completely. I just don't agree that this is a strategy to win, just a strategy to get attention and, for the show, get even higher ratings. As they did with Coach last season, you knew they didn't spend that much time with him as the focal point of the show to have him exit early and when he said Marisa had to go, there was no drama left for the rest of the episode.

And also just like with Coach, Russell will only serve to hurt his allies and end up taking good people out of the game for no good reason. He weakened an already fractious tribe with that eviction.

LOL

Black people cant swim is such a basic stereotype that you probaby have gone so far beyond it you cant see it anymore

Theres a funny This American Life segment about a guy working at an ad agency and the MONTHS of white guilt meetings they had where they beat around the bush but wouldnt come out and say that the new Doctor Pepper ad with a group of inner city kids at the pool shouldnt run because 'black kids dont swim'

They had focus groups of black kids, all of which saw the ad and said 'black kids dont swim'

they had consultants come in and say 'black kids dont swim'

Finally the PC monster got the best of them and they went and sub-contracted a black-run advertising agency to review the account

They immediatly told them to drop the commercial because 'black kids dont swim'

If his tribemates are worse off, he looks comparatively better at tribal council.

Personally I think Evil Russel's game plan is great, and one I had hoped someone would try someday. I hope he can actually pull it off to the point where it gets him somewhere in the game.

Why not? Whether he caused it or not, it got people fighting about things. It also might have helped cause his team to lose and go to TC. He figured he had things safe for him and he lobbied to get out someone who was turning on him. He's now minus someone who would have been out to get him before long.

I don't know it's the best strategy for long but he might adapt his strategy as the game continues.

Simple numbers game. The tribe with the most people at the time of merge has the best chance of winning. Cause to much chaos on your tribe will increase the odds of having some switch sides. Cause to much chaos lowers team work and moral which isn't going to help you win.

Causing that kind of chaos after the merge is different story.

I have a terrible memory (like Michele), but didn't Coach's tribe enjoy a numbers advantage when they merged?

So his dickish antics, which decimated that advantage for no logical reason, happened AFTER the merge.

Time will tell, but if Russell keeps this up and makes it to the merge, I'd bet his team will have a numbers disadvantage.

Of course they could pull one of those stunts where the tribes get all mixed up.

It has mostly worked out that way in the history of Survivor (e.g., Osten)

Is there an exile island, or hidden immunity idol?

I think Russell makes this season fun. I can't believe he's a "multi-millionaire". I would have guessed he's a professional wrestler...Taz.

Doesn't look like it. I'm kind of glad they went away from that.
