He can afford it but maybe he is doing it for the little or older guys with not a lot of disposable income who might just own one classic car?

While not on the level of a tv show, there's at least 2 different guys that do a live stream on Tiktok. They stand in front of their collection (of around 5,000) and people viewing will call out a movie and they will pull it out to show they have it. Sometimes talk briefly about the movie or disc. It's a definite niche stream.

Pardon?

AZ has a law like this on the books. Basically if a car is older than 25 years old, it can be considered "historic". You can get special plates and be exempt from certain requirements, like emissions.

It always makes me laugh to see something like a Toyota Celica or a Ford Ranger with these historical plates.

I have to believe you “Understand” the use of quotation marks around a word to show you’re using it for lack of having a better word to use.

I do wonder what is the purpose of focing smog checks on most cars if you are going to exempt the ones that polute the most.

The use of the word upset is not the issue.

i don’t know why some people here think that what im “Upset” about is that he spends his money on cars. Its not. It’s rich people not having to follow the environmental laws we have in place. I couldn’t care less what Jay Leno collects if it doesn’t impact the planet.
No one said anything about your motivations for criticizing Leno. Your first post about the law was sarcastic, but completely clear about what your opinion was and why.

I brought up Leno spending tens of millions of dollars on his car collection. My post had nothing to do with you or what you posted. I did not reply to you or mention your comments.

Thus my confusion, as expressed earlier.

I think the idea is that what makes these cars valuable to collect is maintaining them in their original condition. If you take one of these cars and start adding on modern technology, it reduces the value. So the law would force someone to damage their investment. And then, these kinds of cars are not being driven around as commuter cars. As noted in the linked story, in one state, to be exempt, the car had to be registered as a collector car and not driven more than 5000 miles a year.

I would say that if you are wealthy enough to be collecting cars, then you can afford special registrations that an exemption would require.

An environmental purist would say that no one should be exempt, and that's a valid POV.

That's fine. I was just trying to understand how you went from what I posted in 440 to what you posted in 441. And I was handing you an excuse in 446.

Just got curious about what charities Leno supports and found this

ay Leno's J.D.M. Foundation is a private operating foundation established in 1988 by Jay Leno. It is a charitable organization that will inherit Leno's car and motorcycle collection, known as "The Leno Collection," and his real property. The foundation is intended to support a range of causes that are important to Leno, and he has designated the foundation to open a museum featuring his automobile collection.

He made his own charity to avoid taxes?

I remember he saved ALL his Tonight Show money. He lived off his stand-up shows. I wonder when he started dipping into his savings.
Also he never spent a night in Vegas. Flew back to LA after every show, which seemed really wasteful to me when he played Caesars for a weekend.

When these people have SO MUCH money what do they spend it on, except indulging every desire and impulse they have?

Maybe he is at the age where he does not need to spend extra time in Vegas which is a good thing and avoid blowing his fortune on gambling and probably be tempted into doing other nefarious things late at night.

I don't think Jay is wired to be a gambler or do other nefarious things.

Since he has had the wealth to own his own jet, he flies home after his one nighter shows no matter where they are, even from the East Coast.

He really is just kind of boring machine that is either performing or wrenching.
