L&O:SVU is pulling pretty good numbers this season ( IMO, the best 'serious' procedural on right now )

Perhaps the nation's TV viewers were still out playing pranks Thursday night, because the April Fool's Day ratings were pretty modest across the board.

CBS, which swapped timeslots for its dramas "The Mentalist" and "CSI," came out on top with 12.7 million viewers and a 7.8 rating/14 share, but that was well below the network's usual numbers for Thursday. Ditto ABC, which came in second with 7.55 million viewers and a 5.0/9. FOX (7.2 million, 4.5/8) finished third. NBC (4.4 million, 2.9/5) came in fourth, beating out The CW (2.6 million, 1.6/3).

CBS also led the adults 18-49 ratings with a 3.0, which is also below its usual average. ABC's 2.5 was good enough for second place, edging FOX's 2.3. NBC averaged 1.9 in the demo and The CW 1.2.

Thursday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

CBS: "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" (11.1 million viewers, 6.6/12)
FOX: "Bones" (8.4 million, 5.4/10)
ABC: "FlashForward" (5.1 million, 3.3/6)
NBC: "The Office" rerun - hour-long episode (4 million, 2.7/5)
The CW: "The Vampire Diaries" (2.8 million, 1.7/3)

18-49 leader: "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" (3.5)

9 p.m.

CBS: "The Mentalist" (13.9 million, 8.6/14)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" (9.75 million, 6.4/11)
FOX: "Fringe" (6 million, 3.7/6)
NBC: "The Office" rerun - hour-long episode (4 million, 2.6/4)
The CW: "Supernatural" (2.4 million, 1.6/3)

18-49 leader: "Grey's Anatomy" (3.5)

10 p.m.

CBS: "CSI" (13.2 million, 8.4/15)
ABC: "Private Practice" (7.8 million, 5.3/9)
NBC: "The Marriage Ref" (5.3 million, 3.3/6)

18-49 leader: "CSI" (2.8)

Man, Grey's ratings are falling big time. It's going to get renewed, but I think ABC and the creators need to re-assess the show.

CBS didn't have a basketball game to boost its ratings like it did the previous week, but it still won the night easily thanks to the strength of its lineup, especially "Undercover Boss," which focused on Roto-Rooter president and COO Rick Arquilla.

The Eye network averaged 10.1 million viewers and a 6.1 rating/11 share for the evening, well ahead of second-place finisher ABC, which drew 6.2 million viewers and a 3.8/7. Next came NBC with 5.9 million and 3.5/6 and finally FOX, 3 million and 1.8/3.

The adults 18-49 demo crown also went to CBS with a 2.6 rating, followed by NBC, 2.0, ABC, 1.8, and FOX, 1.3.

Sunday hour by hour:

7 p.m.

CBS: "60 Minutes" (8.1 million viewers, 5.3/12 households)
ABC: "America's Funniest Home Videos" rerun (5.8 million, 3.2/7)
NBC: "Dateline NBC" (4.1 million, 2.6/5)
FOX: "'Til Death" - two episodes (1.7 million, 1.0/2)

18-49 leader: "60 Minutes" (1.4)

8 p.m.

CBS: "The Amazing Race" (9.1 million, 5.2/9)
ABC: "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" rerun (6.9 million, 4.3/8)
NBC: "Minute to Win It" (5.4 million, 3.0/5)
FOX: "The Simpsons" rerun (3.4 million, 2.1/4)/"The Cleveland Show" rerun (3.7 million, 2.2/4)

18-49 leader: "The Amazing Race" (2.7)

9 p.m.

CBS: "Undercover Boss" (12.9 million, 7/3/12)

FOX: "Family Guy" rerun (4.6 million, 2.7/4)/"Sons of Tucson" (3.1 million, 1.9/3)

CBS got its biggest audience in several years for the finals of the NCAA basketball tournament, but it wasn't quite big enough to push the network ahead of ABC Monday night.

ABC danced its way to the top with 18.1 million viewers and an 11.4 rating/18 share thanks to "Dancing With the Stars." CBS wasn't too behind, raking in 16.3 million viewers and a 9.9/16. Then there's quite a leap to Monday's third place finisher, FOX (7.2 million, 4.4/7), followed by NBC (5.2 million, 3.3/5) and The CW (1.8 million, 1.2/2).

CBS beat out ABC in the adults 18-49 ratings, scoring a 5.5 to the Alphabet Network's 4.4. FOX came in at 2.3, while NBC averaged 1.6 and The CW 0.9.

NBC: "Chuck" (5.8 million, 3.3/5)
The CW: "Life Unexpected" (1.8 million, 1.2/2)

18-49 leader: "Dancing With the Stars" (4.6)

Well Chuck moved up, but not very much. Better than flat or down, although I suppose a 3.3 was the same as last week so that is flat.

"American Idol" prevailed in a crowded 8 o'clock hour Tuesday night, then took a big jump in its second hour to lock up a ratings win for FOX. The numbers for CBS' dramas and the "Dancing with the Stars" results show, meanwhile, were off a bit from recent original episodes.

FOX led the night with 20.4 million viewers and an 11.7 rating/18 share in households. CBS (13.9 million, 8.8/14) came in second, beating ABC (9.3 million, 5.8/9) by a comfortable margin. NBC (7.2 million, 4.4/7) finished fourth, while The CW could muster only 1.3 million viewers and a 0.9/1.

FOX had a wider lead in the adults 18-49 demographic; its 7.1 rating in the demo was better than the combined total of ABC and CBS, which each scored a 2.9 to tie for second. NBC was close behind at 2.8. The CW drew a 0.6.

Tuesday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

FOX: "American Idol" (17.9 million viewers, 10.4/17 households)
CBS: "NCIS" (16 million, 10.0/16)
ABC: "Dancing with the Stars" results (12.3 million, 8.1/13)
NBC: "The Biggest Loser" (6.8 million, 4.1/7)
The CW: "90210" (1.55 million, 1.0/2)

18-49 leader: "American Idol" (6.4)

9 p.m.

FOX: "American Idol" (22.9 million, 13.0/20)
CBS: "NCIS: Los Angeles" (13.65 million, 8.5/13)
ABC: "Lost" (9.45 million, 5.7/9)
NBC: "The Biggest Loser" (8.3 million, 5.2/8)
The CW: "Melrose Place" (1.05 million, 0.8/1)

18-49 leader: "American Idol" (7.8)

10 p.m.

CBS: "The Good Wife" (12 million, 7.9/13)

The 100th episode of "Bones" put up decent ratings Thursday, but CBS led all three hours of primetime en route to an easy win for the night.

CBS scored 14.4 million viewers and an 8.8 rating/15 share in households for the night, leading its closest competitor, FOX (8.1 million, 5.0/8), by more than 6 million viewers. ABC (4.6 million, 3.2/5) and NBC (4 million, 2.6/4) aired reruns for most of the night. The CW trailed with 3.1 million viewers and a 1.9/3 but was up a decent amount from last week.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, CBS' 3.6 carried the night by a comfortable margin over FOX's 2.5. NBC finished third in the demo at 1.7, and ABC and The CW tied for fourth at 1.4.

Thursday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

CBS: "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" (12.2 million viewers, 7.3/12)
FOX: "Bones" (9.8 million, 6.1/10)
ABC: "FlashForward" (5.45 million, 3.5/6)
The CW: "The Vampire Diaries" (3.5 million, 2.0/3)
NBC: "Community" rerun (3.4 million, 2.2/4)/"Parks and Recreation" rerun (3.2 million, 2.0/3)

18-49 leader: "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" (3.7)

9 p.m.

CBS: "CSI" (15 million, 9.3/15)
FOX: "Fringe" (6.5 million, 4.0/6)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" rerun (4.8 million, 3.4/6)
NBC: "The Office" rerun (4.2 million, 2.6/4)/"30 Rock" rerun (3.7 million, 2.4/4)
The CW: "Supernatural" (2.8 million, 1.7/3)

18-49 leader: "CSI" (3.5)

10 p.m.

CBS: "The Mentalist" (16.1 million, 10.0/17)
NBC: "The Marriage Ref" (4.8 million, 3.1/5)
ABC: "Private Practice" rerun (3.6 million, 2.7/5)

18-49 leader: "The Mentalist" (3.5)
Both Mentalist and CSI had 2mil more viewers this week in their normal timeslots. Hopefully, CBS gets the hint.

Everything was dramatically down last week. CSI was probably up because of the promotion of the Dr. Jekyll episode.

By the same token, The Mentalist last week (@ 9) was up against a new episode of Grey's Anatomy while this week CSI was up against a rerun. Last week CSI (@ 10) was up against a new ep of Private Practice, this week The Mentalist was against a rerun. So I'm not sure I'd look too much into that bump, though generally I agree the timeslots they're in are better.

I do wonder if CBS will move CSI next season (to another night) and put The Mentalist on at 9, however. Also, with CSI's decline in ratings, perhaps it's time to put one of the spin-offs out to pasture? I'm not a big fan of CSI: NY (and its ratings are the lowest of the CSIs IIRC), but I get annoyed with CSI: Miami and its been hovering around 10 million per week.

The return of "House" and CBS' comedies didn't do much to stem the "Dancing with the Stars" tide Monday. In fact, "House" and the sitcoms were all well off their season averages.

ABC led the night by a wide margin, scoring 17.9 million viewers and an 11.5 rating/19 share in households. CBS (10.4 million, 6.5/11) finished second. FOX took third with 9.4 million viewers and a 5.7/9, easily topping fourth-place NBC (3.7 million, 2.5/4), which had two of its three shows in reruns. The CW (1.8 million, 1.2/2) trailed.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, ABC's 4.2 rating beat out CBS' 3.6 for the top spot. FOX came in third with a 3.3, followed by NBC, 1.1, and The CW, 0.9.

Monday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

ABC: "Dancing with the Stars" (19.1 million viewers, 12.3/20)

NBC: "Chuck" rerun (2.7 million, 1.9/3)
The CW: "Life Unexpected" season finale (1.8 million, 1.3/2)

18-49 leader: "Dancing with the Stars" (4.3)

9 p.m.

ABC: "Dancing with the Stars" (21.4 million, 13.8/21)
CBS: "Two and a Half Men" (13.5 million, 8.2/13)/"The Big Bang Theory" (13.1 million, 7.9/12)

It was good to see 24 back up, but it appears that House is no longer the ratings powerhouse it once was.

Four months of fan anticipation -- and an "American Idol" lead-in -- helped "Glee" capture its biggest audience ever Tuesday and deliver a strong ratings win for FOX. Oh, I don't want to get rid of it (yet). We still DVR it every week. There's a place for campy over-the-top shows like this on TV, IMO. Besides, I wouldn't want to lose my weekly fix of Eva La Rue.

But Castle is easily in my top 5 favorite shoes of the past ten years. I am very excited to see it doing so well.

Yes, but now David Caruso is a caricature of himself. I'd rejoice in it being gone mainly because I still enjoy the original CSI and think having 2 spin-offs might needlessly hurt it (no doubt William Petersen leaving was a big blow, however).

As for Eva La Rue, I'm sure another show would sign her. Hell, move her to CSI: NY, they need a hottie on there.

The "American Idol" results show claimed its usual spot atop the ratings with Wednesday's double elimination, leading FOX to a win for the night. As has been the case for the past couple weeks, though, ratings for a lot of scripted shows lagged a little bit. The series finale of "Ugly Betty," meanwhile, was up a bit from recent airings.

FOX drew 13.9 million viewers and an 8.2 rating/14 share in households to lead the prime-time race. CBS (9.75 million, 6.3/11) came in second, a good bit ahead of ABC (6.2 million, 4.0/7). NBC took fourth with 5.3 million viewers and a 3.5/6, and The CW (1.9 million, 1.3/2) trailed.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 4.3 rating beat CBS' 2.5 by a good margin. ABC, 2.2, came in third, followed by NBC, 1.6, and The CW, 0.8.

Wednesday's hourly numbers:

8 p.m.

FOX: "Human Target" season finale (7.2 million viewers, 4.5/8)
CBS: "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (6.3 million, 4.1/8)/"Accidentally on Purpose" (6.05 million, 3.8/7)
ABC: "Modern Family" rerun (5.2 million, 3.5/6)/"The Middle" (6.7 million, 4.2/7)
NBC: "Minute to Win It" rerun (5.9 million, 3.7/7)
The CW: "America's Next Top Model" (2.8 million, 2.0/4)

18-49 leader: "The Middle" (2.2)

FOX: "American Idol" results (20.6 million, 11.9/19)
CBS: "Criminal Minds" (12.2 million, 7.8/13)
ABC: "Modern Family" (8.8 million, 5.3/9)/"Cougar Town" (5.8 million, 3.7/6)

The CW: "Fly Girls" (944,000, 0.7/1)/"High Society" (861,000, 0.6/1)

18-49 leader: "American Idol" (6.6)

10 p.m.

CBS: "CSI: NY" (10.8 million, 7.0/12)
NBC: "Law & Order: SVU" rerun (5.6 million, 3.9/7)

NBC got decent ratings from a "Saturday Night Live" documentary on Thursday, and "Bones" pulled its usual solid numbers for FOX, but neither show could move CBS from the top spot.

The Eye led the night's Nielsens with 12.2 million viewers and a 7.5 rating/13 share in households, beating FOX (8.2 million, 5.1/9) by a healthy amount. NBC took third with 5.7 million viewers and a 3.7/7. ABC (4.5 million, 3.1/5) came in third, beating out The CW's 2.7 million viewers and 1.6/3.

The adults 18-49 race was closer, but CBS still prevailed with a 3.1 rating. FOX's 2.6 was good for second, while NBC finished third at 2.4. ABC and The CW tied for fourth at 1.3.

FOX: "Bones" (9.7 million, 6.2/11)
ABC: "FlashForward" (5 million, 3.4/6)
NBC: "The Office" reruns - two episodes (3.8 million, 2.6/5)
The CW: "The Vampire Diaries" (3 million, 1.8/3)

18-49 leader: "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" (3.7)

9 p.m.

CBS: "CSI" (13.05 million, 8.1/14)
FOX: "Fringe" (6.7 million, 4.1/7)
NBC: Special - "Saturday Night Live in the 2000s" (6.5 million, 4.2/7)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" rerun (4.7 million, 3.4/6)
The CW: "Supernatural" (2.4 million, 1.5/2)

18-49 leader: "CSI" (3.0)

10 p.m.

CBS: "The Mentalist" rerun (11.5 million, 7.5/13)
NBC: "Saturday Night Live in the 2000s" (6.9 million, 4.3/8)
ABC: "Private Practice" rerun (3.7 million, 2.7/5)

18-49 leader: "Saturday Night Live in the 2000s" (3.0)
