With Heather back on MELROSE and the ratings barely ticking upwards I have a feeling the complex will be shut down before upfronts.

There are only 25,000 total American households that participate in the Nielsen daily metered system.[8] The resident population of the United States as of 2009 is about 307 million people.[9] As a result, the total number of Nielsen homes only amounts to 0.0000814332248% of the total American population, meaning that 99.9999186% of Americans have no input at all into what is actually being watched.
I don't know if the above is 100% accurate, but the self editing system in Wikipedia is pretty good.

FWIW, the wiki article author's math (or rather, their ability to correctly interpret percentages) is flawed. Even assuming that each "household" represented 1 person, that would calculate to 0.00814%, not 0.0000814%. But, the average number of persons per household is not 1. According to US Census estimates as of 2008, the average number of persons per household is 2.56. That means that the number of people in the Nielsen homes is approximately 64,000. That results in a percentage of the population of 0.0208%. So, roughly one person in 5,000 participates in the Nielsen rating system.

TV ratings: 'Mentalist,' 'CSI' lead CBS Thursday sweep
By Rick Porter

November 20, 2009 8:50 AM

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009

A slightly down night for ABC Thursday resulted in an across-the-board ratings win for CBS, which led primetime in both in viewers and demographic ratings.

CBS was off a touch from the last couple weeks as well, but it still snagged the top spot with 14.35 million viewers and an 8.8 rating/14 share in households. ABC (10.3 million, 6.8/11) finished second. FOX (7.9 million, 5.0/8) came in third, a good distance ahead of fourth-place NBC (5.4 million, 3.5/6). The CW averaged 3.2 million viewers and a 2.1/3 -- though that may change some since its Miami affiliate aired an NFL game instead of the regular lineup.

In the adults 18-49 demo, CBS' 3.7 rating topped ABC's 3.5 for the lead. FOX and NBC tied for third at 2.3, and The CW came in at 1.5.

Thursday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

CBS: "Survivor: Samoa" (12.3 million viewers, 7.3/11 households)
FOX: "Bones" (9.8 million, 6.2/10)
ABC: "FlashForward" (8 million, 5.2/8)
NBC: "Community" (5.1 million, 3.3/5)/"Parks and Recreation" (4.6 million, 3.1/5)
The CW: "The Vampire Diaries" (3.7 million, 2.4/4)

18-49 leader: "Survivor: Samoa" (3.8)

9 p.m.

CBS: "CSI" (15 million, 9.3/14)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" (14 million, 9.1/14)
NBC: "The Office" (7.4 million, 4.5/7)/"30 Rock" (5.9 million, 3.7/6)
FOX: "Fringe" (5.9 million, 3.7/6)
The CW: "Supernatural" (2.7 million, 1.7/3)

18-49 leader: "Grey's Anatomy" (5.0)

10 p.m.

CBS: "The Mentalist" (15.8 million, 10.0/17)
ABC: "Private Practice" (9 million, 6.1/10)
NBC: "The Jay Leno Show" (4.8 million, 3.2/5)

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part IV (2009-2010 Season)

That must have been the reason for the low Vampire Diaries numbers. It's been gradually building week after week.

As for Friday numbers sad to see Smallville take a slight drop, especially since it was a pivotal episode that they were building to all season. Plus it's the last one until next year.

8 pm

CBS: "Ghost Whisperer" (8.4 million viewers, 5.4/9 share in households)
NBC: "Law & Order" (7.5 million viewers, 4.8/9)
ABC: "Shrek the Third" (5.8 million viewers, 3.4/6 share in households)
FOX: "House" rerun (3.3 million viewers, 2.1/4 share in households)
CW: "Smallville" (2.5 million viewers, 1.6/3 share in households)

18-49 leader: "Ghost Whisperer" (2.0)

9 pm

CBS: "Medium" (7.8 million viewers, 5.0/9 share in households)
NBC: "Dateline" (7.6 million viewers, 5.0/9 share in households)
ABC: "Shrek the Third" (6.8 million viewers, 3.7/6 share in households)
FOX: "Bones" rerun (3.6 million viewers, 2.4/4 share in households)
CW: "America's Next Top Model" rerun (.9 million viewers, 0.7/1 share in households)

18-49 leader: "Shrek the Third" (2.1)

10 pm

ABC: "20/20" (7.9 million viewers, 5.3/10 share in households)
CBS: "Numb3rs" (7.8 million viewers, 5.1/9 share in households
NBC: "The Jay Leno Show" (4.7 million viewers, 3.2/6 share in households)

18-49 leader: "20/20" (1.8)

Re: Primetime TV Ratings - Part IV (2009-2010 Season)

Friday's have been weak overall this season. The CBS shows which normally pulled around 9-10M a week like Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs are both down significantly.

Smallville has been pretty consistent on Friday's, but it seems like a waste to not have another original scripted show after it instead of a repeat of Top Model.

By Rick Porter

November 23, 2009 9:04 AM

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009

NBC's Sunday NFL game pulled in somewhat lower ratings than usual, but they were still big enough to edge CBS and ABC -- which got the biggest audience for the American Music Awards in seven years -- for the night's top spot.

NBC averaged 12.94 million viewers and an 8.0 rating/13 share in households on Sunday, edging CBS (12.69 million, 7.8/12) and ABC (12.14 million, 7.3/12) for the lead. (All three networks had live sports for at least a small part of the night, so their numbers may change a little in the final nationals.) FOX came in a fairly distant fourth with 5.5 million viewers and a 3.2/5.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, NBC's 4.8 rating beat out ABC's 4.5. CBS took third with a 3.2, while FOX came in at 2.7.

18-49 leader: NFL/"60 Minutes" (4.7)

8 p.m.

NBC: "Sunday Night Football" - Eagles-Bears (14.2 million, 8.5/13)
CBS: "60 Minutes"/"The Amazing Race" (13.5 million, 7.9/12)
ABC: 2009 American Music Awards (12.8 million, 7.8/12)
FOX: "The Simpsons" (7 million, 3.8/6)/"The Cleveland Show" (6.5 million, 3.7/6)

18-49 leader: "Sunday Night Football" (5.1)

ABC: American Music Awards (15.6 million, 9.3/14)
NBC: "Sunday Night Football" (15.5 million, 9.5/14)
CBS: "The Amazing Race"/"Cold Case" (10.3 million, 6.2/10)
FOX: "Family Guy" (7.4 million, 4.2/6)/"American Dad" (5.5 million, 3.2/5)

18-49 leader: American Music Awards (6.1)

10 p.m.

NBC: "Sunday Night Football" (14.3 million, 9.1/15)

TV Ratings: ABC, CBS dance, do the splits Tuesday
By Hanh Nguyen

November 25, 2009 9:18 AM

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009

Tuesday night was a ratings race with CBS' crime procedurals coming out on top among households, but ABC's three-hour "Dancing With the Stars" finale snatched away the adult demo mirrorball trophy -- barely. Also good for ABC was "V," which maintained its viewership from the previous week after dipping in the past two weeks.

CBS took the night with 16.6 million viewers and a 10.3 rating/17 share in households, just ahead of ABC's 15.9 million/9.8/16. A far-off third place went to NBC (7.6 million, 4.7/8), followed by FOX (5.4 million, 3.3/5) and then The CW (1 million, 0.7/1).

Among adults 18-49, however, ABC jockeyed for position and pulled ahead with a 3.9 average for the night, edging past CBS' 3.8. NBC had a 2.9, FOX a 2.1 and The CW a 0.5.

Tuesday's hourly results:

8 p.m.

CBS: "NCIS" (20.3 million viewers, 12.3/20 households)
ABC: "V" (9.2 million, 5.6/9)
NBC: "The Biggest Loser" (8.6 million, 5.3/8)
FOX: "So You Think You Can Dance" (5.9 million, 3.7/6)
The CW: "90210" repeat (1.2 million, 0.9/1)

18-49 leader: "NCIS" (4.4)

9 p.m.

ABC: "Dancing with the Stars" (17.86 million, 11.1/17)
CBS: "NCIS: Los Angeles" (17.2 million, 10.4/16)
NBC: "The Biggest Loser" (9.2 million, 5.5/9)
FOX: "So You Think You Can Dance" (4.9 million, 2.9/5)
The CW: "Melrose Place" repeat (816,000, 0.6/1)

18-49 leader: "NCIS: Los Angeles" (4.3)

10 p.m.

ABC: "Dancing With the Stars" (20.5 million, 12.7/21)
CBS: "The Good Wife" (12.5 million, 8.1/13)
NBC: "The Jay Leno Show" (4.9 million, 3.3/5)

18-49 leader: "Dancing With the Stars" (4.6)

Ratings information includes live and same-day DVR viewing. All numbers are preliminary and subject to change.

TV Ratings: CBS' 'Criminal Minds' overshadows NBC's 'The Biggest Loser'
By Andy Grieser

November 26, 2009 8:35 AM

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009

NBC's "The Biggest Loser: Where Are They Now?" was early Wednesday's biggest winner, though it was quickly steamrolled by the CBS procedural juggernaut in the later hours. "Criminal Minds" took home the night's demo trophy, and "CSI: NY" ended the evening with a bang for the Eye.

Those shows pulled out a significant CBS win with 11 million viewers and a 6.7 rating/12 share in households. NBC came in a distant second with 6.8 million and a 4.1/7, followed by FOX (5.4 million, 3.3/6), ABC (5.2 million, 3.2/6) and The CW (1.3 million, 0.8/1).

CBS also took the night's demo win, but barely, with a 2.6 over NBC's 2.4. FOX rounded third with a 2.0, ABC lagged with a 1.7 and The CW trailed the pack at 0.4.

8 p.m.

NBC: "The Biggest Loser: Where Are They Now?" (7.7 million viewers, 4.6/8 households)
CBS: "The New Adventures of Old Christine"/"Gary Unmarried" (6.9 million, 4.1/7)
ABC: "Modern Family"/"The Middle" (5.7 million, 3.5/6)

Tied or beat viewership with everything on ABC. That can't be good for Betty.

That doesn't look good for Leno going up against 2 repeats and still having less than 5M viewers.

By Rick Porter

December 2, 2009 9:31 AM

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009

The big four broadcast networks had their schedules disrupted by President Obama's address on Afghanistan Tuesday, but when things settled down CBS ended up with the most viewers for the night.

Also of note: "The Biggest Loser," bumped back an hour because of the speech, substantially (and unsurprisingly) outperformed "The Jay Leno Show's" average at 10 p.m., while the revamped "Scrubs" fell off significantly from its ABC debut last season.

For the night, CBS averaged 10.5 million viewers and a 6.9 rating/11 share in households. NBC (9.3 million, 5.9/9) finished second. ABC (5.49 million, 3.5/6) beat FOX (5.46 million, 3.4/5) for third place by the slimmest of margins. The CW trailed with 1.8 million viewers and a 1.3/2.

Decent numbers for Scrubs.

It's ridiculous to see CBS reruns constantly top the charts...

Wow, that's some really good numbers for Glee, mainly attributed to the night mostly being in repeats. I hope the 4 month break doesn't kill the momentum after next week's Fall Finale.
