Re: Holy Crap! Darabont to adapt 'The Walking Dead' for AMC
Now I know why nobody posts in Book Talk, they're putting all the book discussion in this forum!

Re: Holy Crap! Darabont to adapt 'The Walking Dead' for AMC
Books poison the mind.

Re: Holy Crap! Darabont to adapt 'The Walking Dead' for AMC
The comics has its ups and downs. The first panels of issue 7 were really haunting. The prison storyline went on way too long.
And yes, the book does rely on cheap gimmicks. EVERY SINGLE ISSUE ENDS WITH A CLIFFHANGER. |
Re: Holy Crap! Darabont to adapt 'The Walking Dead' for AMC
BWS is good art :) He is heavy on ink details and veryveryvery busy. Personally I don't like the way he does hair on women, but all-in-all really good art. (Currently I'm loving Frank Cho, but Frank Miller and Romita Jr are my top two)
Didn't mean to come off like an ass... but I'd have defended BWS just the same if someone called him horrible. That should be reserved for Rob Liefeld only. |
Re: Holy Crap! Darabont to adapt 'The Walking Dead' for AMC
Personally I think Adlard's art is a great fit for the book and, as a comic book artist, I feel he does a great job of story telling.
Navinabob, I'd like to see the artwork you mentioned. I just finished the 5th hardcover volume and was surprised to hear that the original art is comic book sized. That means they enlarge it for the hardcover printings...interesting. Slop, I like BWS too and am curious as to who some of your other favorites might be. |

Subtlety didn't work, so I'll be more direct. Any chance we can take the discussion of the comics to book talk?

Its just declaring statement of saying it has bad art and storytelling, that irks people because its just simply not the case.

Finally got a chance to read the pilot script tonight and really liked it. Definitely looking forward to seeing what it looks like onscreen.

The CGI on that one guy is awful.

Re: Holy Crap! Darabont to adapt 'The Walking Dead' for AMC
I'm surprised no one wanted to do a large-scale TV series about a zombie apocalypse sooner. The Walking Dead wasn't very groundbreaking for the genre; in fact, it stuck to almost all the classic formulas. And the characters are almost all clear allusions to the Romero movies.

this is just looking awesome!! Glad it looks like it seems to have the right people behind the scenes. Zombies look great.

Horror television shows are fairly rare. The best we may get is an anthology series every now and then. But horror is a tough genre to pull off and an even tougher sell to a network. Not to mention until recently networks have typically avoided shows with long form story arcs. |

Something doesn't necessarily have to be popular for it to break out and find an audience. It's a great concept, that's why.

So why is it you are suprised a "large-scale" let alone any series about a zombie apocalypse hasn't been done sooner?
The British already created a zombie outbreak TV series; the 2008, 5 episode "Dead Set": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Set_%28TV_series%29 Also, in 2007 CBS had a pilot for a show, Babylon Fields, involving "reanimated corpses" of the recently deceased, who try to return to their lives. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_Fields |
