Hard Knocks returns with the Bengals (Season premiere 8/12/09)

"The star-crossed Bengals are about to become HBO's latest stars.

HBO and NFL Films chose one of the least successful and most dysfunctional teams of the past 18 years for its next "Hard Knocks". The series follows a select National Football League team through its training camp and provides an in-depth perspective of the team's preparation for the upcoming season."

Premiering on August 12th at 10 PM EST

I have never been all that interested, but it seems to me that the Bengals are the perfect show for this sort of look. I'm going to have to check this out.

I have to wonder why any team would agree to this show. It does nothing good for the team profiled and probably submarined the coaching careers of Dave Campos and Herm Edwards. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that no team featured has ever made the playoffs that season. That can't be a coincidence at this point.
Don't get me wrong, as a fan I'm happy it's on, but if I were an NFL GM, there's no freakin way I'd ever okay this program in my camp. You can bet your life that as long as Belicheck is in New England, we'll never see a Patriots season.
Number One on my wish list : The Raiders.
Number Two : The Broncos
Number Three : The Redskins

Still, the Bengals should be pretty entertaining and I'll TIVO this. Hope it doesn't cost Marvin Lewis his job, though.

1st ep was pretty good. But that seems like an awful way to cut people. "Hey man wake up, your cut, get your shit and get the fuck out".

Child Please!

it is part of the business

The Ravens were the first team to be covered in 2001 and they were the defending champions.

They made the playoffs and beat the Dolphins in Miami in the wild card round and lost at Pittsburgh in the divisional round

That was the best season since it was new back then and it had some intrigue because they were defending champs and they had great characters like Shannon Sharpe and Tony Siragusa and they lost Jamal Lewis for the season so it had some drama.

That Tight Ends coach should get his own show. I loved how he tried to be diplomatic when Mike Brown asked him "Can't we just make one our d-lineman a tight end?"

First episode impression, but it's not hard to see why the Bengals only won 4 games last year if that's the way Marvin Lewis and the gang run a pro football camp.

Good show. I really wish they did this on my Buccaneers but the Bengals are a train wreck.

This shows brings back memories of HighSchool camp, and really got me juiced to play Football again. I thought this was alot better then the Cowboys 'Hard Knocks' last year.

I thought Lewis came off OK. Mike Brown looked incompetent, which isn't too surprising based on his career.

Agree the Cowboys in 2002 and 2008 were the weakest shows.

I would like to see the Raiders and the cameras rolling on Al Davis talking to Tom Cable in his office.

They could use a similar setup like "The Office" where they talk directly to the camera

Tom - "Al told me to run the vertical offense but I said F that"

Then the camera would pan to Al Davis twirling his pencil nervously and not saying a word after Tom leaves the room.

I can definitely see Chad Johnson coming up with something stupid like that and beating it to death in the 10 second clip like they showed. If he put half as much "real" effort into playing that he does his antics he "might" wear that jacket he so much covets.

Tank with his daughters was great. LOL @ "wedding dick".

Carson Palmer to starting Center - "Dude, yesterday after practice, I sniffed my fingers and...well, it smelled like they just came out of a toilet."

LOL.

Agreed that Tank's daughters were great.

This is the first season of Hard Knocks I've watched and I like it.

I was surprised to find out that General Zod is the Bengals' Offensive Coordinator.

What the hell was with that police officer talking about "more people being killed by falling coconuts than by shark attacks"? Do NFL players have a reputation for brazenly walking under palm trees or something???

I was wondering the same thing? WTF? I don't even know how that would come up in a conversation at an NFL training camp.

Only if they make the Pro Bowl. Someone forgot to tell the officer that he was in Cincy.

I think instead of the over-enthusiastic cop they should have had a financial advisor give some investing basics. Ochocinco looked to have about a 3rd grade level understanding of finance.
