'Ruby & The Rockits’ starts tonight on ABC Family thread

I guess I have 2 reasons to be selfish by posting this thread.

First off, it's a ABC/Disney show that is justing starting and needs some exposure, plus I just found out this morning that the person who plays Patrick Cassidy's wife is Katie Amanda Keane who has been going to my church for the last 5 years or so.

I wasn't going to watch this, but I added a season pass and will give it a couple of episodes. Here is the synopsis for the series:

ABC Family’s New Original Series ‘Ruby & The Rockits’ Premieres Tonight

Patrick Gallagher (Patrick Cassidy) is a former 80's pop star who has chosen to lead a quiet life with his wife, Audie (Katie Amanda Keane), and two sons — Jordan (Austin Butler) and Ben (Kurt Doss). But when his former Rockits band mate and brother, David (David Cassidy), shows up unexpectedly with his new-found teenage daughter in tow, Ruby (Alexa Vega), the Gallagher family's life becomes anything but normal. David, who refuses to give up his past glory days, comes to Patrick for help in raising Ruby while he continues to perform. Patrick must now put the past with David behind them in order to help raise Ruby and keep order within the rest of the Gallagher clan. Ruby & The Rockits debuts tonight at 8:30PM ET/PT following a new episode the ABC Family's original series 10 Things I Hate About You.

Ruby & The Rockits is an ABC Studios half-hour multi-cam comedy executive-produced by Shaun Cassidy and Marsh McCall. Ruby & The Rockits' story is by Shaun Cassidy (Invasion) and Ed Yeager, with teleplay by Ed Yeager and Marsh McCall (Carpoolers). The pilot was directed by Ted Wass. Alexa Vega (Spy Kids), Patrick Cassidy (Smallville), Katie Amanda Keane (Eli Stone), Austin Butler (Zoey 101), Kurt Doss (Role Models), and David Cassidy (The Partridge Family) star. This is the first time all four of the Cassidy brothers have worked together. Youngest brother Ryan Cassidy is a set designer on the show.

Hollywood Records has released a full-length version of "Lost in Your Own Life," which Ruby (Alexa Vega) sings in the pilot episode. The single is currently available on iTunes and other digital retailers. Vega also sings the series' opening title song, "You Are Where I Live," which was written by Shaun Cassidy.

Let me know what you think.

Ahhh and the personal attacks begin again. It's interesting how the same people get away with personal attacks over and over again and never have to answer for it.

I thought the show was okay and will give it a chance.

Except, of course, that there has been nothing resembling a personal attack in this thread.

Just watched the promo. The sitcom setup makes it look a bit too TGIF for my tastes, but it might be an okay show for families and tweens.

Re: 'Ruby & The Rockits’ starts tonight on ABC Family thread

When I talk with Katie this Sunday I'm going to ask her if this was actually filmed before a live studio audience or not. The 'canned' laughter was a bit irritating. But anything after The Office & 30 Rock is pretty irritating in the laughter department.

They also made her look a lot older than she is. I would say that she is in her early 30's, but her character would have to be in her mid 40's. But I thought she did a nice 'bubbly' job with her character.

Like I said, I will give this a couple of more episodes and see how it goes. Boy, the years haven't been good to David Cassidy & his speaking voice.

Re: 'Ruby & The Rockits’ starts tonight on ABC Family thread

I spoke with Katie this past Sunday and she said they will find out this Friday whether this will be renewed for next season. She said that the writers have been working on scripts, so that is always encouraging.

I also asked her if this was filmed in front of a live studio audience and she said it was. So, if there is any 'canned' laughter it is probably minimal. And she did confirm to me that Alexa does sing all of her songs live during the taping, which is the way it sounded to me.

All in all I really like this show and it does have an edge to it. It's not your usual 'wholesome' family show that always seems to be on the air.

Here's hoping that we get new episodes next summer.

I have enjoyed this show and its pairing with 10 Things. Still miss The Middleman but i have watched most of ABC Family's offerings.

Ah that is a shame. I liked its pairing with 10 Things. Has a decision been made about it for another season? I thought I read it was picked up but what will they pair with it now?

The series finale is this Tuesday at 8:30 pm ET with a replay of last weeks episode
