"The Doctor" episodes are the only ones of the Sarah Jane show I can bother putting up with.

Thanks for the reminder.

I'm behind on this series. Haven't started season two yet. It will be the next series I watch once I'm done with the wire.

Watched the first part yesterday and it went completely as I expected to. There wasn't much of a surprise in anything that happened. Luckily, that was only the "set-up" and the 2nd part should be more interesting.

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

I loved the scenes between Sarah and Jo Grant. I like how Jo reacted when she found out the Doctor had been back to visit Sarah but not herself.
I always wondered that. Does the Doctor ever go back and say hello to say, Tegan? Glad they explained the past companions thing.
So did the guy who played Sarah's son leave the show or are we just seeing him on a computer screen for the rest of the show?
I thought maybe Joe's Grandson might help out.

Loved seeing the flashbacks used for a reason. Not just thrown in because they can. The vulture aliens were silly and their design was over-the-top - Just like a lot of the aliens in the original Who series. It brought back memories of watching the show as a teenager.

And that made me happy.

It reminded me of creatures from Jim Henson's Creature shop that they used on Farscape.

I don't watch this series, so I haven't seen the ep.

However, there was a Big Finish audio play where the Doctor visited Tegan 20 years after her departure. Unfortunately I don't recall much about it other than the plot was kind of a mess. I think Tegan struggled to reacclimate to normal life after the Doctor but eventually succeeded.

I enjoyed "The Death of the Doctor" eps. A lot of fun, and great seeing the former companions teaming up.

They do mention her and a few other companions but I couldn't hear which others. Was someone else able to hear these names?

The only ones I can remember were Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright and how they haven't aged in 50 years.

The first season was shown on Scifi, but none of the later seasons have been broadcast in the US.

They were before my time. I went from the 4th Doctor on and then viewed a little of the 3rd.
Nysa stayed on some other planet right?
Adric was killed.
Lela was on Gallifrey? Romana too?
Ace?

Any others?

Romana stayed in E-Space. They may be able to use that in the future as E-Space may not have been affected by the time war.

Sarah mentions:

Tegan is in Australia fighting for Aboriginal rights.

Ben & Polly are in India running an orphanage

Harry Sullivan is a doctor working on vaccines and has saved thousands of lives. Sarah made it sound like he passed away (Which actor Ian Marter has).

Dorothy (Ace or Dodo) runs a Charitable Earth company, raising billions.

Ian and Barbara are professors in Cambridge. Neither have aged since the Sixties.

In episode 1, they mentioned that the Brigadier is in Peru and Liz Shaw is on their Moonbase.

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Let's see...

Liz and Jo just stopped hanging around, from what I recall. Stayed with UNIT or whatever.

Harry, I don't recall, but I think he went back with UNIT or whatever, too.

The Doctor ditched Sarah Jane on Earth in her own time period when the Time Lords called him back.

Leela stayed on Gallifrey.

Romana stayed in E-Space with the Thundercats.

Adric died while killing off the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, with the aid of the Cybermen.

Tegan stayed on Earth in her own time, twice.

Nyssa stayed on the Terminus space station.

Turlough returned to his own people.

Peri... I think she hooked up with some alien guy during the Trial of a Timelord fiasco.

Mel... I don't remember and I don't care.

Ace... still with Doctor #7 when the series was canceled.

(I'm not familiar enough with the Hartnell and Troughton eras to comment.)

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

This episode is more like Doctor Who than it was all last season.

It would be great to see Tegan again.

Ok, thanks. So how are people in the US viewing the show?

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

This wasn't too bad, although I preferred the Tennant guest appearance. Smith had a few good comebacks. I was surprised at how much press got drummed up for the fact that this is where we would FINALLY find out how the Doctor would have more incarnations, and all we got was a throwaway line.

I did like this more than the Doctor Who episode that re-introduced Sarah Jane, though. Because there were more former companions (and references to all different former companions), this one felt like it had more context.

I think I missed what that line was though. Anybody have the quote?

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

As they're escaping the heating vents, one of the kids says:

"Wow, even your eyes are different. I thought at least your eyes would be the same. Can you change color or are you always white?"

The Doctor says, "No, I can be anything."

And the kid says, "And how many times can you change anyway?"

And the Doctor replies, "507."

This was being trumpeted as a huge reveal that would tell us how the Doctor could get more regenerations. I guess it was just Davies changing what's been established instead.

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

The "507" sounds more like the Doctor being facetious than it does a serious answer.
