HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread

A quick heads-up, I just noticed that the first episode of the season airs in about a half an hour on the East Coast. I'll post my thoughts about this year's crop after I screen the episode.:)

This is the first time I've ever seen the show. Entertaining. I agree with the judges on who they booted.

The team that finished bottom were horrendous, I'd expect the other partner to be gone next week.

I loved the dining room, I wasn't sold on the wood panelling, but the graphic was amazing, and as for the 2 women who couldn't see that painting the geese hot pink would work ha!

Vern Showed you.

Well in that chap for sticking to your guns and painting them pink.

I quite like this show. Wasn't enough time in this episode with the judges.

the whole first part where they voted in the competition was icky

Back to the Cheap Seats for Amy. That was truly a terrible kitchen. Looking forward to next week's show-the white room challenge.

Both kitchens had me underwhelmed.

Can't wait for the white room challenge.

Re: HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread

I preferred the aesthetic of the losing kitchen, of course, there was a lot to be desired with the finishes.

I think Tashica should have gone home,

Dan and Antonio both dominated the show, but that was more in a carpentry/muscle way.

I was impressed with Jason in this episode.

both team captains were weak..

the individual challenges are great. I prefer Top Design over designstar.

I was surprised she didn't get sent packing since she messed up two times in a row.

Looking forward to next week. I like individual challenges more.

Agreed, the losing kitchen looked better.

What BS. She was responsible for accessories, and their kitchen had no accessories. What the hell did she do other than break stuff and do stuff wrong? I'm guessing she's a plant or they kept her around for more drama. But she has basically gotten the first two people eliminated by her awfulness.

Finisher that's funny, I thought the exact same thing, that the producers are keeping her around, did you see the reactions when she came back into the green room.

fine, I'll be the one to say it. she was kept because she was, and is, the only black person on the show.... and she should have been sent home.... and I hate my wife for getting me hooked on this show.

She has got to go. Her key design point in the white room challenge was lifted from a previous season and she can't even paint a clean line to save her life. I was surprised that she wasn't even in the bottom 3. It's funny that the master colorologist got the boot because of her choice in colors.

Agreed. I  when I saw all those messy uneven lines. I thought it was cool that the two designers helped the gal who was having so much trouble.

Re: HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread

finally Tashica is gone..

catching up on the white room challenge first

Dan's room was amazing, I loved the wood on the wall.

Tashica flat out copied another season's work.

amazed that Jen went home over Lonni, given that Lonni's room was only pulled together with help from Antonio and someone else who escapes me.

the garage challenge was good, but not giving the one family a new garage door was a major screw up.

Dan and Antonio are driving the show esp in the group challenges of which there's another next week. Clive was correct if they were both on the same team it would be a demolition.

I liked how they huddled and then gave Tashica the boot.

But she's a real person and has feelings!

Loving Dan!

Antonio is a ball buster, but he definitely gets the job done.

Whatever happened to last years winner? It was the blonde, right? I can't even remember her name. How come no show?

Dan's eyes freak me out! reminds me of Nestor Carbonnel, Richard on lost

Anyone watch this past Sunday? I was kind of sad to see the li'l dude with glasses go. Glad Antonio stuck to his guns about the paint color.

I was rooting for Nate in the beginning, but I knew he was a goner after he spent 20+ hours on nailing a bunch of plywood together and throwing some paint in it.
Antonio is very good at what he does.. but he's got a very short temper and like the judges said in the end, if he can't get along w/ the people around him there's going to be problems.

I'm now rooting for Dan.

Re: HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread

Nathan's white room challenge room, where he used milk to create that wallpaper effect, was one of the best of the series. So he's obviously talented. Just poor at time management.

Antonio does great work but I can't imagine them giving him a show, he's way too dick-ish.

Seems like it's Dan's to lose.

LiquidSky 08-18-09 10:04 AM

Re: HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread

Yeah, I'm rooting for Dan too.

BDB 08-18-09 12:02 PM

Re: HGTV Design Star Discussion Thread

I'd agree with it being Dan's to lose, but then this is also a show about presenting right? that will come into it in the next episode or 2.

Nate really hung himself out to dry spending all the time on the media center, which in the end didn't look that great.

However Chevron girl had that not got completed could have been equally as hosed. I knew though that Vern would love the Chevrons.

Dan and Antonio on one team is a rockstar team..

Good episode. Glad that snobbish/annoying guy got the boot.
