Penn & Teller: Bull****: Video Games - 07/09/09
Showtime, 9:00pm CDT
I think the season starts to get more interesting here.
Next week: The Apocalypse
Episode 3: Video Games
Politicians and other alarmists claim that playing video games leads to teen violence. Penn & Teller attempt to debunk that theory by handing over a real semi-automatic weapon to a nine-year-old to see if playing video games will turn him into a human killing machine.

The anti-videogame idiots are hilarious. From time to time I'll see them ranting on some talk show about that "new fangled" game Doom with it's "realistic graphics", calling it a "murder simulator".

BREAKING
Omaha Gunman Egged on By Penn and Teller to duplicate video game
A 9-year-old male who was appearing on Penn and Teller's Bull**** turned the gun on shoppers at an Omaha, Neb., mall — killing eight people and wounding five others before turning an assault rifle on himself.
Wearing a camouflage vest and a black backpack, Robert A. Hawkins began firing as shoppers and employees at the Westroads Mall scrambled for cover in dressing rooms, clothing racks, offices and storage areas.
Hawkins had recently filmed an episode of Bull****.
Eight people were killed and five wounded before the shooter ended the horror by taking his own life. He left behind a note that read, in part, "Now I'll be famous."
Police Chief Thomas Warren said the shooting appeared to be random and that the dead included five females and four males, including the gunman. Warren promised more details in a news conference scheduled for Thursday morning.

I had a feeling the kid was going to cry. I've never fired a gun and probably never will, but it sure looked like he hurt himself (looks like it recoiled and hit him in the cheekbone) as he held it in an awkward position.

I only wished that they would have explained the reason for his tears at the end. I also figured the kick hurt his shoulder. Love the triangle guy who loved to shoot and collect outrageous guns.

I don't think it's possible for Bullshit to make Jack Thompson any less credible than he already was.

oh sure it was. there's a shit ton of stuff they didn't even bother focusing on. they semi-addressed that he cherry picks data from these "scientific" studies but there were a boatload of more examples of that they could've used to show he's an assclown.

Let me clarify. What I meant was that he has made such an ass of himself on cable news commentary shows already, that whatever they didn't include on BS is already well known about Jack Thompson.

maybe not everyone knows who he is. he didn't come off as really a raving lunatic as we all know him to be. they really could've kicked him while he was down, but he seemingly got a free pass.

Back when I would shoot guns even when you started to get too used to it you would get comfortable and let the recoil hit you a bit, and it hurts and I am big guy so if this was a little kid it had to hurt.

The one and only time I shot an AR-15 it hardly kicked at all. It was a good episode.

Even though I agree the kickback probably hurt him, he was extremely nervous about firing it to begin with. The way he was dancing around you could tell just being around such a large (compared to him) real gun had him kinda freaked out.

I've done some research into this topic and a couple papers on it. Would have liked to see David Grossman involved. He's another anti-video game nut. One of his main cherry picked sources of data is the school shooting at Paducah, KY, is that the kids had something like a 96 percent hit rate, whereas a trained army sniper would only hit 90 percent, but since these kids played video games, they could outshoot a sniper. No mention of the fact that they were blindly firing into a group of people, that would make too much sense!
Did enjoy the episode. Didn't foresee the Triangle guy being a gun nut as well, especially since that would be one of the items to remove and break the triangle

The kid didn't even have the rifle up against his shoulder like he should have, no wonder he cried he was too young enough to handle the recoil.

I thought the 9 year old shooting the gun was a bit of a gimmick. The idea on the other side is that 9 year olds that play violent video games start playing with real guns when they become 16 year olds. It was an interesting show with the interviews from people but that whole part with the kid took away some of the creditability.
