Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
My wife and I have been watching the new version of Battlestar Galactica and are up to Season 4. In the first episode they show Starbuck's new ship and it has the number 8757 on it. A few minutes later they show Lee Adama standing on the ship, or on a ladder going to the ship, and the number has changed to 4267. I'm just wondering if this was intentional or a continuity mistake? We are only up to episode 3 so if the answer has something to do with future happenings please use a spoiler tag when posting.
Okay now I'm really confused. I went back to check the numbers and saw that when Starbuck first lands the Chief is walking by her ship and the camera pans along with him. As the camera goes to where Starbuck is getting out of the ship the number changes from 4267 to 8757 very quickly. Any ideas? I did a search and didn't see another thread on this. I can provide screen caps if needed. Thanks, Bob |

The number switches from 4267 to 8757 with no cut in the shot. I almost felt like my eyes were playing tricks on me but I slowed it down and watched it a few times. The later scene the camera angle changes but in the first scene the numbers change while you are watching it.

I don't remember anything significant that would tie into.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
I just rewatched that scene and the scene about 10 minutes later when they're looking at the ship again, and it's always 8757 for me. *shrug*

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
Here is the first scene about 12 minutes into the episode:

I did notice in a later episode Starbuck is writing coordinates in a notebook and they seemed to each be a set of 4 numbers so maybe that has something to do with it. Any more ideas as I am not dyslexic? Bob |

That's 2 different numbers alright. Easy to see.
It's gotta be a mistake. |

Don't read this until after you've seen the finale.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
Season 4.5 doesn't come out until July 28th and Sci-Fi is doing a marathon of Season 4.5on the same day. I hope my thread is still on the board by then because it's going to be tough not too look at the spoiler.

Don't let it bother you too much, it's a joke, and probably not even a very good one, but it is a spoiler if you haven't seen the finale.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
Just checked my hd rip of the episode and the numbers never change.
I have almost the exact same frame up right now and its 8757NC. Just noticed via Google that a BSG blog posts the same thing yesterday, is this some sort of organized joke? http://www.battlestarquorum.com/?tag=4267 |
Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
Someone manipulated the screenshots. Seems like a silly waste of time for an internet joke...they could have at least told us Katie's topless in one shot or something fun like that. :)

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
I wrote my post on here and someone named Alex posted it on the other site. I have no idea who Alex is, where he got that picture from or why he copied my post & put it there with his name on it.
I took those frames directly from the DVD I got from Netflix and did not change, manipulate, photoshop, anything. I have both clips in AVI format that I would be happy to email someone to show that this is not an internet joke. The first clip is 6 seconds and the second is 47 seconds, I left the scene intact so noone would accuse me of editing it. Okay so I uploaded the video to Youtube for everyone to check out. I tried to post both clips but the second one was taken down almost immediately due to copyright restrictions. I don't know how long this one will last: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc3bgTs6HP8 NitroJMS can you post that screen shot, to show that the number doesn't change, when they show Lee Adama standing on the ladder? Thanks, Bob |

Battlestar Wiki has a tiny snippet on this, look under the Gaffes section, but be careful of other sections for spoilers

Re: Battlestar Galactica Mistake or on Purpose?
Oh, this is the episode where Kara returns after she disappeared and everybody thought she was dead, where she says "I've seen Earth".
It was intentional, but don't worry about it, it's just a hint at things to come. The vast majority of people never caught it and still enjoyed the show. Just keep watching the episodes. Here's my explanation, but it contains some major spoilers: Spoiler:
