Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
courtasy Perezhilton.com of all places
FX's Nip/Tuck has been cancelled. Tears! The last episode, which will also be the series 100th episode, wrapped on June 12th - but don't expect to be seeing the finale anytime soon. It won't be airing until 2011!! Cast and crew have been left with an unsettling feeling regarding the completion of the series - mainly because most of the crew followed creator Ryan Murphy over to Fox for Glee. Turns out Murphy wasn't even present for the filming of the last ep! "It's sad because it feels incomplete," Diana Valentine, a script supervisor for Nip/Tuck lamented to reporters about the finale. "It feels incomplete, kind of separate. It's very hard." Although difficult, most agreed that it was time for the record-breaking show to end. "I feel we've reached a creative impasse with regards to what we can do with this story," Nip/Tuck actor John Hensley (who played Matt) reveals. He continues: "I just feel that we were a show that was very good and innovative at one point and we've gone the way of so many shows before us. Our moment has passed." Will U be tuning in to the last episode two years from now??? |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
I thought it was expected that the season that just wrapped filming was going to be the last.

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
This series needs to end. I was a fan and still am to some degree but the last few seasons have been really dumb and stretching it a bit.

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
Yeah, I thought it had been known that Nip/Tuck was ending it's run after the last 19 episodes aired..

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
Look at the source, guys. While I can't call this report erroneous, I think it is clear this is a cancellation that is in no way controversial. This was the plan. That's why Ryan Murphy has a new show.
I have to say I don't get why he wasn't there. Shawn Ryan missed the wrap of The Shield because of the WGA strike. I felt a little badly for him. Ryan Murphy could have certainly juggled things if this was important to him. I don't think he needed to be there. I'm not offended. I just think it's silly to lament it. |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
Hilton is a fucking idiot. It's been known since last summer that season 6 would be the last.
http://www.reuters.com/article/enter...38196020080716 LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Nip/Tuck" will come to an end after the plastic surgery drama's sixth season wraps in early 2011, cable channel FX said Tuesday. The network said serialized dramas, such as "Nip/Tuck," have a much different storytelling model than nonserialized shows such as "Law & Order" or "CSI." "If you tried to do 150 episodes of 'The Sopranos,' you would begin to diminish the quality of those shows," FX president/GM John Landgraf said during the network's presentation at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Beverly Hills. "The David Chases ('Sopranos') and Shawn Ryans ('The Shield'), they're taking on social commentary and grand sweeping questions. If we want to go after that brass ring, we have to accept they have limited shelf life." FX has ordered 19 additional episodes beyond the current 22-episode season that will mark final season. The show will end its run with a total of 100 episodes in early 2011, with creator/executive producer Ryan Murphy signed on through the last episode. "Nip/Tuck" has already aired 14 episodes of its current fifth season; the remaining eight are set to premiere in January. Additionally, FX said it ordered 13 episodes of a new scripted series, "Testees," to debut October 9 following "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." "Testees" centers on two friends in their early 30s who earn a living as medical guinea pigs. In casting news, FX said Michael J. Fox has signed on for an arc in "Rescue Me," starting with the fifth-season premiere in the spring. He will play the wheelchair-bound boyfriend of Janet Gavin (Andrea Roth), Tommy's (Denis Leary) estranged wife. Marcia Gay Harden is joining Timothy Olyphant and William Hurt as series regulars for the second season of "Damages." She will play a high-powered attorney who goes up against Glenn Close's attorney character. Meanwhile, Ted Danson is set to reprise his role as Arthur Frobisher in the legal drama series for several episodes, though it's unclear whether his character survived a shooting in the first-season finale or will appear in flashbacks. (Landgraf said only that his character is "not terribly healthy," and producers didn't clarify the matter when asked the question on a "Damages" panel later Tuesday morning.) FX said no decision has been made as to a third season of "The Riches," which performs better than AMC's "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" and Showtime's "Dexter" but fell 44% in ratings from Season 1 to Season 2. "We have a much higher bar for threshold for success than Showtime or HBO or AMC," said Landgraf. "So one of the things I'm always struggling to balance is, do I stay with something like 'The Riches' that I'm really proud of that has some real strengths and weaknesses, or do I open up the slot?" Reuters/Hollywood Reporter They are going to air 10 in 2010 and 9 in 2011. |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
I have to say that this spreading out of the drama seasons over such long periods has really turned me off on FX, since that's a valid topic for this thread. People complain about USA's split seasons, but they generally split them over a single calendar year, not two years.
I didn't like the long delays with The Sopranos, either. At least in that case, they were generally production delays. These are just idiotic delays in my book because the shows are done. First it was The Shield. Now it's Nip/Tuck. The Shield was slightly plausible because FX had a lot of content at that point. Have they even replaced many of their originals they canceled? |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
This show should have ended a couple of years ago. It stopped being good about that time.

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
For my third dip (lots of things are coming to mind), I figure I should also inquire about Rescue Me. It was either half a year or a year behind Nip/Tuck, right? Have there been any discussions about when it will end? I've never been a fan but don't loathe the show. I'm just kind of curious.

The only new drama that they added, which was actually considered a success was Sons of Anarchy. That got a 13 episode 1st season and will have another 13 episode 2nd season when it returns in September.
I do need to find a way to check out Sons of Anarchy before the second season starts. Without giving anything specific away, I like what I have heard about the cast. |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
FX's current roster of scripted dramas:
1) Rescue Me 2) Damages (It already got renewed for a 3rd season) 3) Sons of Anarchy 4) Nip/Tuck (going into Final season) Extremely slim pickings now. I think USA and TNT is going to overtake them. |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
Just on the basis of Burn Notice alone, USA has overtaken them. I have episodes of Royal Pains awaiting me on my DVR when I get in the mood to watch. I guess Sons of Anarchy could put FX back on top.
TNT dramas all look cheesy to me. It may just be their promo people who suck in my eyes, though. |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
Also the way the article is written, it is made to seem like there is only 1 episode in the can and that will be the finale which as you all pointed out is far from true

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
starting a topic on news reported by Perez Hilton, jeez.

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
This show started to go downhill after season two. By season four, it seemed like every new character Matt or Christian would get involved with in any capacity was batshit insane and ultimately out to get them. Season five started out a little better - more in the vein of the first season - but it too quickly turned hopelessly bizarre.

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
Outside of It's Always Sunny, FX hasn't had a successful comedy. Lucky, Starved, and Testees were quickly cancelled.
Look at all the shows that FX has also cancelled in their drama department that only had one or two seasons. Over There, Thief, Dirt, The Riches; 30 Days made it to three before being cancelled. They started out being the edgy cable network in terms of original programming; but as stated, USA and TNT have been slowly kicking their ass in terms of original programming on cable. It also doesn't help that FX has nothing really in the pipeline at the moment to replace these shows either. Maybe FOX can give them some of their programming their quick on canceling? |

SON OF THE BEACH was successful enough to run two seasons and, as I undertand, was not cancelled because of bad ratings, but because FX wanted to re-brand itself as an edgy dramatic channel. |
Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
This is news? Old news if anything. I hate it when a series has a planned ending, and some people scream canceled!!

Re: Nip/Tuck cancelled, final episode to air 2011
I've been digging the last season of Nip/Tuck, but this show really shuld have ended after S2, S3 max. The quality has gone way below the level it was once at. I only tune in out of habit at this point.

I hope F/X doesn't go the route of USA. I certainly like Burn Notice, but I wouldn't call USA's stuff edgy. Even the F/X drama 'failures,' with the exception of Dirt have been good quality IMO. |
