The Goode Family 05/27/2009

(promo above)

From Mike Judge, naturally. Looks fantastic to me, but I couldn't find a synopsis for tonight's premiere. 13 episodes ordered.

Anyone else looking forward to this? The freaking pandas and dolphins in that picture slay me.

I watched a few of the promos and like King of the Hill it was funny, but it also has KotH's low key delivery, which never really worked for me.

The Goode Family a.k.a. The Bizzaro Hill Family

I'm definitely going to check it out. Never liked Beavis & Butthead, but King Of The Hill is one of my favourite shows and this seems more like the latter than the former.

I've laughed a few times but the in between moments are a little unbearable.

Re: The Goode Family 05/27/2009

Wasn't sure how the show would work, but I genuinely enjoyed it. The show definitely has some growing to do, but I think it was a good start.

This is a lot like King Of The Hill (which was to be expected) with a liberal-American family. I enjoyed King Of The Hill because it was down-to-earth, just like this one. Judge has a great sense of humour.

The voice acting was good as well. You can hear traces of Hank's voice in Gerald (most notably the "Oh My God" expression).

This episode struck a good balance between over-the-top Liberalism and Conservatism, political correctness, and the positives and negatives of the Green Movement. I expect future episodes will feature similar themes as well.

All in all, enjoyable and hope it sticks around.

Yeah, a few good gags ("An Inconvenient Bag"), but I'm not sure in the long run it's (ahem) sustainable.

Couple of laughs, but I'm not sure it is sustainably funny.

Re: The Goode Family 05/27/2009

Less than a minute in - colored greens, collard people.

I had go grown loudly at that already. It was way more well done on The Office a long time ago.

I just want KOTH back, please.

Spoiler:
I'm willing to give this one a shot though.

EDIT:

I am now 4 minutes in, and the entire concept just grates on me like fingernails on a chalkboard. I get what it is and what it's trying to be (pretty much the opposite of KOTH), but my God, I'm not sure I can take this for 30 minutes. If this is what the entire series is, I give it 4-6 episodes before it's canceled for good, if even that.

The only positive spin I can put on this show is that I did discover Surviving Suburbia, and I found that funnier than I expected it to be.

Same. I had never heard of Surviving Suburbia, but it was actually pretty funny. I still enjoyed The Goode Family though. It's no King Of The Hill, but it'll have to do...

Re: The Goode Family 05/27/2009

There were a lot of really funny moments.

"So President Jensen, we simply need more money. If you want to have a proportionally diverse staff we need three more minority hires."
"Hmm.... Or we could just fire three white guys. Everybody wins."

About half of the jokes seemed too forced. But most shows take a couple episodes to get rolling. I'll give it a chance. There's not much else on right now.

That is the absolute only reason I'll watch this this even one more shot. This show made me want to put my head through the screen. The only reason I continued past the 7 minute mark is because of Mike Judge. If he wasn't attached, I'd have given up on it almost instantly. I hate almost every character on the show, I hate what the comedy stems from, I hate almost everything about it.

That said, I saw two positives about the show:

-Hearing Hank Hill come out of the dead every now and then, especially his "Oh God".

-The Dog, I love the "meat mode".

I'll give it another shot or two, but if it doesn't improve by leaps and bounds and stop going for the horrible easy jokes, that will be it. Not just for me, but the show itself. As of right now, I still don't see it making it past episode 4 or 6.

This show won't last. Hollywood won't allow it.

But it sounds incredibly interesting to me! Looking forward to it.

I don't think it'll last either. But I love the "Fuck you Hippie", "Let's take a piss at Prius Drivers" vibe of the show.

"Collard Greens, Colored People" I laughed out loud. He reminded me of a toned down Cotton Hill.

I like the show in a way that it's so odd that i can't look away from it and something about the animation creeps me out.

WOW! GREAT SHOW! Probably the funniest thing (with the exception of South Park) that I've seen on TV since season 8 of the Simpsons!

Too fucking funny!

I wonder if all the wackos out there who watch this will finally understand that this is how the rest of the world sees them! Brilliant show!

Re: The Goode Family 05/27/2009

I loved the drunk mom asking the Black neighbor if there really was a convention for minorities, and he just looks deadpan and says, "It's in Memphis." I thought the dog and Umbuntu were pretty lame, but maybe they just need time.

And when the mom was talking about "self discovery" and the jacuzzi.

Oh stooooop. Actually, keep going. You make "The Goode Family" even more on point.

Besides, one can still give a crap and not be a self righteous prick about it. This show no doubt has it's roots in the Hippie Teacher character from Mike Judge's Beavis and Butthead.

Re: The Goode Family 05/27/2009

I'm mixed, as I thought I would be. Their was some good stuff but I agree with some of the criticisms here. But I think its problems are the same as a lot of pilot episodes. Once the easy, gimmicky jokes are out of the way and they don't have to push the premise so hard the show has potential.

One thing I hate is the son's voice.

Yeah his voice annoys me too. Apparently it is the same actor that portrayed Michael Bolton in Office Space, but it sounds nothing like him. Perhaps they had someone else do the voice for the Pilot and the voice will change in the next episode.
