Static On OTA CBS Signal

More and more, I hear static when I watch my local CBS in hi def OTA. How is this possible? I would expect that if I were watching their analog signal OTA. I have 2 different hi def TVs, each with their own antenna, and it happens on both sets. It's not all the time, and it only happens with CBS. What gives?

my local cbs station said they changed their frequencies recently. They told people to re-scan for the channels. That should fix the static.

It may be that they haven't figured out how to use the equipment yet. My local PBS station is fine when they are showing national shows in primetime, but when they are airing shows that are on a local schedule (cooking and travel shows), they are in widescreen but window-boxed in 4:3, so you end up with a widescreen image about half the size of your TV screen and "black bars" on all 4 sides. I sent them an e-mail about it and got a somewhat condescending reply that the black bars are normal for digital TV. Fortunately, my TV has a zoom, so it's close to their correct aspect ratio. It seems like the resolution is not quite as good when zoomed though.

Maybe those just aren't in HD and thus have black bars on four sides.

Not to hijack the thread, but the "Travels with Rudy Maxa" show starts off with something like "The splendors of the world, brought to you in the lifelike glory of High Definition."

I just don't understand how I end up hearing static when the signal is digital. I didn't think it was possible, but apparently it is. Isn't static associated with analog signals?

yeah, that seems weird. w/ HD signals, you get pixelization.
