My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
This is not an April Fools Joke (at least I don't think DeadlineHollywood would pull this crap).
http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.co...l-jump-to-fox/ I'm confirmed that NBC is considering cancelling My Name Is Earl due to low ratings and escalating costs. The 20th Century TV show's producers are resisting the drastically reduced licensing fee they're being offered. So word is that Kevin Reilly could pick up the show, which he originally developed when he was NBC Entertainment prez, for the Fox network, where he is now. Fox's own comedy development is weak, with Boldly Going Nowhere dead and projects like the derivative Cop House a better fit for Comedy Central. But 20th TV needs a few more years of Earl for syndication value. As for NBC, everything is low-rated, even its critical hits like 30 Rock. But I bet if NBC owned the show, it would stay on the air. So maybe the network execs will reconsider if they realize the show may head to a competitor. |
Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
I don't watch Earl, but I've already known that every network seems to have bias with their own "In-House" productions and stuff produced by other studios gets shafted/gets less support unless the ratings are outstanding. Wouldn't surprise me at all if this moves to FOX.

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
This show was done a couple of years ago. Not funny anymore. Time to let it go.

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
It's still decent, but I wouldn't mind if they wrapped it up. This seasons almost over though. Maybe have a short 13 episode season next year to wrap it up.

I suspect that you guys saying that haven't been watching this season. IMO it's been very strong and back to form.

S1 was great S2 eh S3 was really bad (Earl in jail for the first half and some moronic 50's sitcom life for the second) S4 is just as good, if not better, than S1. Fox wants this show to run at least 1 more season for syndication rights and I'm sure they will make it happen. It could make a good pairing with 'Til Death (which only got picked back up so Sony could sell the syndication rights - even though they still have 15 unaired episodes and the show has not been on air since October). |

I like iced cream and popped corn.

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
I could see the show working on Fox. But at the rate NBC is going its going to be a few returning shows and everything else new.

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
Well, it is a Fox produced show and they are hurting for live action sitcoms so I could see them taking it over. Not sure what NBC would do, though looking at the backlog of ratings, Earl certainly hasn't been bringing them in.
Maybe they'll use it in a bid to reacquire the broadcast rights to House. |
Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
I've been skipping it and watching it on nbc.com when the mood strikes.

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
This season of Earl has been fantastic. I wish they'd spin Estrada or Nada of into a real show.
I'd just as soon have NBC cancel it gracefully than give it to FOX to forget they have and air it alternating Wednesday and Sunday mornings at 2:37am. |
Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
^ what he said.
I think this season has been terrific. But whatever they do, they shouldn't go near FOX. |

Interesting. I know ratings have not been great, but NBC has little intentions of renewing Kath & Kim and it looks like Parks and Recreation will likely replace that. So IF they cancel MNIE, what other 30 min sitcom does NBC have to stick there? After what happened to Scrubs (ABC picking it up and ratings increasing) I think the show might still have a year left in it - if only for syndication.
I dropped MNIE when Joy and Darnell were sent away by the witness protection program. I realized I just didn't care at that point. |
Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
Then you missed the Danny Glover one!

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
I continue to watch Earl. If moving the show to FOX keeps it on the air, then so be it. :)

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
Cool so Fox can immediately cancel it then make a movie!

I'd like them to branch out from the list but as season 3 showed, the entire show hinges on that one setup, once they get away from it the show tanks. I think that is due to the writers though. The cast is amazing so there should be a completely enjoyable show there even without Earl's list. |
Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
I hated season 2 but still watch it and this season has been rocking for the most part.

Re: My Name is Earl might be jumping to Fox
I liked Kath and Kim quite a bit...I guess people just didn't get it.
I also like Earl. What I am not too thrilled about is Parks and Recreation. The part about it that bugs me the MOST is the "talking to the camera" type thing. The Office started out about a documentary film crew filming the going ons in an office, and the British series nailed that concept perfectly. Though they abandoned the documentary angle in the US version over the last few years, I accept it because it is what it is. But it didn't work in ABC's Miss Guided, and I sure don't want to see it in other shows. It's just arbitrary and it's being used for no good purpose. Kind of like the Matrix special effects and how they got over used. It's time to just STOP that kind of crap before it even begins. They do need at least one more season of Earl...just to wrap up the story line. I heard they had a specific story arc in mind for the final season and in the final episode Spoiler:
