American Idol -- Top 11 -- Grand Ole Opry Week -- 3/17-3/18/09
Tonight is once again 2 hours and the theme is Songs from the Grand Ole Opry.
Carrie Underwood, Randy Travis and Brad Paisley will appear on the Wednesday results show.
Never a fan of the country music themed shows and I know Simon hates them.

LOL. Oops. I even gave you a shout out in the thread I started asking where you have been! I even checked old time stamps for the time you posted the thread so I didn't step on your toes.

No worries.....I only beat you by 2 minutes. Probably need Jadzia to merge our threads.
Plus, the threads are free reign. It really doesn't matter if I, you or someone else wants to start it. I usually am up really late and that's why I do alot of the shows I like the night before.

In other American Idol news Upper Deck trading cards are announced:

LOS ANGELES – "American Idol" fans will soon be able to trade Carrie Underwoods for Danny Gokeys.
"Idol" production company FremantleMedia and trading card publisher Upper Deck are launching a new line of trading cards featuring images of past and current contestants as well as the judges and host of the Fox singing competition. The 138-card line is set to debut April 21.
"The 'American Idol' brand has always been really strong in the interactive space," said Nora Wong, FremantleMedia senior manager of consumer products. "With the trading cards, it's an old school way of interacting with the fans. It's another form of expression for the fans to demonstrate their connection with the show and collect their favorites."
Six special cards autographed by past "Idols" will be randomly slipped into the five-card packs. Regular cards will feature rejected hopefuls such as William Hung and Nick Mitchell, past winners like Ruben Studdard and David Cook, and popular finalists including Adam Lambert and Jennifer Hudson.
What about long-gone first season co-host Brian Dunkleman?
"That remains to be seen," said Wong.

Country-themed shows have been brutal in the past.

I don't understand why they are so specific in the early rounds. Give the large group a chance to showcase themselves before throwing these really specific themes at them.
The round of 11 during the Carrie Underwood season was Billboard Number 1s.
This gives the group a broad range of songs where they can choose one that will showcase their singing style.
Country and Michael Jackson will do none of that.
Then after they get a few weeks to establish themselves, you can throw some specific themes at them.
Heck, even Motown would be acceptable this early.
Good singers won;t have established enough of a fan base to get them through a week of fucking up a country song.

Yeah, that version of Ring of Fire might be the worst performance I have ever seen on this show... Im glad one of the judges finally calls him on it.

Adam was one of the worst performances I've seen on AI...just hideous.
Anoop was good, as was Scott and the last guy.
I really thought Megan was pretty bad, too, but the judges seemed to hear something different.

Adam reminds me quite a bit of Bert McCracken, which is probably bad for AI, but honestly I completely dig the whole vibe.
The blind guy was the worst. Enough with the pity party. His vox blow.

Yes, that was atrocious. As was his performance last week. Thank you Simon for finally coming to your senses.
And oh Adam?

I thought producers vowed to get more contemporary mentors this season. Randy Travis is not a good start.

I was laughing at the end montage, when Michael Sarver was singing my husband started singing "Alabama Man" from South Park.
Some "mentor" that Randy Travis was. I can't remember which singer it was but he said in the interview that he knew the song was completely wrong for them but didn't say anything.
