Dancing with the Stars - (03/09/09 - 2-hours) - Season 8 Premiere!
Dancing With the Stars
8 pm/ET ABC
The eighth season kicks off with two celebrities already out of the competition. Announced participants Jewel and Nancy O'Dell dropped out on Thursday due to injuries they suffered during training. But the show must go on, and the remaining celebs — including Denise Richards, Lil' Kim, Shawn Johnson and Lawrence Taylor — should still be eager to strut their stuff and become the next Brooke Burke. And romance is definitely in the air this spring, as two real-life couples take to the floor: Julianne Hough pairs up with her boyfriend, Chuck Wicks, and pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy tries to outlast his fiancée, fellow pro Karina Smirnoff. — Jennifer Sankowski

I remember reading the news about Maks and Karina being an item. I never saw them as a couple. Oh well.
The biggest surprise on the show will be if Steve Wozniak turns out to be a fantastic dancer.

Before tonight id figured Shawn and Mark would be big favorites to win this but Gilles and Cheryl looked very good too.

Belinda Carlisle looks GREAT! And she did a really good job out of the gate. And Bruno, comparing her performance to Cloris Leachman? Fuck you!

Really a lot of digest through. Some surprises.
I didn't think Steve W and Katrina were that bad.
Chelsie and Ty were really awful.
Steve-O and Lacey did much better than expected.
Melissa did pretty good.
Holly off to a decent start.
Kim had good effort but needs to loosen up and be lighter on feet.
Bad start for LT.
Shawn, Julianna, and Cheryl were good. That's all I remember.

Lil' Kim and Shawn will need to learn how not to overextend their lines. Both are so petite, but there's no sense in trying to make bigger moves than you can. Both looked good, though.
Melissa looked fantastic for only 2 days of training. Granted, she has previous dance experience to help her, but she still did a great job.
Even though Denise had a month to prepare, I didn't think she looked much better than Holly, who only had 4-5 days to learn her routine.
LT is overthinking things. If he can stop that, he'll be pretty good.
Gilles was really good. Chuck was OK, but I still can't get past how the show allowed him to dance with his real-life GF.
DAG look fine, but I wonder if everyone can appreciate his sense of humor. Kym seemed a bit lost with his jokes and that can translate to fans not liking him.

Ty was the only one who was cringeworthy to watch in that Kenny Payne/Master P/Billy Ray Cyrus way.
I think Woz might stick around longer than expected, especially if the Jerry Springer/Cloris Leachman voters take a shine to him.
The judges were too hard on Steve-O. He wasn't perfect by any means but he didn't have as mnay obvious issues as some who were given higher scores.
I really wished LT was better for Edtya's sake, but hopefully his fanbase will keep him around long enough to improve.

It'll take 6 weeks before this show becomes "interesting" from a dance perspective, as that's how long it'll take to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Thank goodness Karina pulled out her skimpiest outfit now because we won't be seeing her after next week. She never looked better.
That Bachelor chick is very attractive. The new female pro dancer isn't much of a looker.

The hunky guy from SATC (Cheryl's been getting all the hunky Latino men lately) performed very well. Lil Kim was getting her groove on. Everyone else was pretty bad or mediocre at best.
Shawn Johnson looks really chubby. Hard to believe she's a gold medalist gymnast.
That Steve-O looked more like he was doing an impression of the guy from Addams Family especially in that get-up he wore.
The Woz did the worst though. Good attitude and maybe some geek fans will pull him through for a couple of weeks.
Oh, everyone will survive this week because they're all dancing another dance next week.

I just tuned in for my fix of Cheryl Burke, Lacey Schwimmer, Edyta Śliwińska, and Kym Johnson. Since no one impressed me all that much, once those women stop competing I'll tune out for the remainder of the season.
