The episode was fun, but it was a real struggle watching this with the 3-D glasses. I wear glasses and had to put these 3-D glasses over my own otherwise the picture would have been blurry as hell. I just couldn't seem to get them in the right position.

Some scenes worked and some didn't. I really didn't get a sense of extra depth perception on alot of scenes. The part where the hot chick threw the knife at the screen did not work for me. I wish I could have used the glasses I got from My Bloody Valentine. Those were much more comfy and I really enjoyed the 3-D alot more.

Back to the episode. Dominic Monoghan was a great guest star. The role seemed somewhat similar to his Charlie character from Lost but a little more over the top. The Gold ticket contest was pretty damn funny. I chucked when Lester got his panties pulled off.

Great to have Chuck back.

Anyone know if they're going to do a repeat without the crappy 3-D effect? Watched about 3-4 minutes and turned it off. It looked horrible without the glasses.

It's going to be posted online Tuesday on NBC.com and Hulu in 3-D and 2-D.

So far I can only find the 3-D version on Hulu, which sucks, because I couldn't find glasses anywhere.

I had the same problems.

I noticed quite a bit - particularly during the brighter scenes, but was annoyed by the muted colors due to the glasses.

So I have no glasses but recorded it. Is it watchable without them or am I better off going to Hulu?

I wear glasses as well and had no problems with these. In fact, these worked out better for me, though I prefer the more clear nature of the My Bloody Valentine glasses. I actually found that it was easier to put the 3D glasses on first and put my regular glasses over them. Worked like a charm (for my friend as well)!

My family thinks I'm the biggest nerd in the world because I knew what the IG-88 reference was. :(

But after Yvonne's hot open, the episode was just OK for me. Not one of the best. The guest star rocker was just annoying to me.

I thought I had some 3D glasses inside my copy of Spy Kids 3D, so last night I went to bust them out to watch this...and they were gone - I think someone borrowed that DVD and kept the damn glasses (when I wasn't home/without my approval)...so I'm kind of pissed - I'll have to find some glasses elsewhere (in Canada we didn't get the 3D superbowl ad so there aren't glasses readily available...) Watched the opening without glasses (brutal) but decided to PVR it and wait until I can find some...

I thought it was only ok too. I actually thought that they would have prolonged the "Chuck feels funny about Sarah not that he's seen her kill someone" plot for a few more episodes but I'm actually glad that its somewhat resolved now since I think it would have dragged on in other episodes.

i heard that too, but to me that just takes away credibility. i wish they would use real things and real terms, just a bit, so i can buy into the absurdity of the premise a little better.

You can't use those glasses, you must have the amber/blue ones required for Color Code's form of anaglyph.

The effect was OK, certainly better than the Super Bowl ads. It was a must in HD though; as I also recorded it on DVD in SD and it didn't work well at all when I tried to play it back.

Anyway, if you want to see real 3-D, go to a theater.

I just started watching "Chuck" on disc, and so far, I'm enjoying it a lot. Hopefully it will get renewed.

8.35M viewers for this episode. Not fantastic considering how heavily promoted this episode was, but still good for how Chuck has been doing this season.

It probably lost nearly as many people as it pulled in being 3D. I tried watching it without the glasses and lasted about 15 seconds. It's on Hulu in 3D too and I'm not watching until I can find the glasses or they fix the color for normal viewing.

Seems like an incredibly stupid idea to take a show with low viewership already and then ruin the viewing experience for those that couldn't' find the glasses. I watched for a minute while doing some work without the glasses and it looked horrible.

Here's a little HD (720P) 3D screenshot gallery I put together.

http://picasaweb.google.com/wmansir/Chuck3D#

It's too bad that after the hot opening they put Yvonne in such bland outfits. Couldn't they have found an excuse to get her twirling on a stripper pole in 3D? I mean, if your going to be exploitative, don't hold back.

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the 3rd Dimension" -- 3D episode -- 2/2/09

3D was decent in some scenes (daylight) and not great in others (night).

I loved all the little nerd jokes they threw at us, including IG-88. Multiple Shawshank references, "No touching" and the Final Countdown from Arrested Development, the Back to the Future "to be continued" font, and a take on the Indiana Jones theme at the end. Then there was Dominic telling Chuck his tattoo meant Serenity. I'm sure there were more I'm missing. There was a LOTR reference wasn't there? In the midst of all the pop culture references I really surprised they didn't work in a Lost reference.

Decent episode, but I'll be glad to get back to the non 3D next week.

I didn't like the 3D at all. We may have had the wrong glasses - ours were blue/red and someone earlier mentioned amber. The episode was just ok. Can't wait for episodes where they focused on story rather than a gimmick effect.

I did like the IG-88 and the "Thermite" grenade.

I was a little irritated that they ruined an hour that I reserved to watch their show (live with commercials). Granted I am not a Nielsen household, but none the less they lost a potential commercial watching body.

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the 3rd Dimension" -- 3D episode -- 2/2/09

Got to be amber and blue to work.

So if you got 3D glasses from Nightmare on Elm Street, Spy Kids 3, or any other red/blue lenses. No go.

Not even the 3D glasses from Journey to The Center of the Earth (2008) work.

Intel and NBC wanted to develop technology that would produce a watchable image even without the glasses. The previous 3D technology washed the image in a red/blue sea so unless you had the glasses, the image was vitually unwatchable.

While it's pretty uncommon, this wasn't the first use of Color Code. Several region 2 DVDs (GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS, ENCOUNTERS IN THE THIRD DIMENSION, ALIEN ADVENTURE, etc) were released with a color code version a few years ago. "Chuck" was the best example I've seen though.

Good news for Chuck!

At NBC, the launch of the network's version of UK format Who Do You Think You Are? has been delayed indefinitely, as NBC has decided to up its episode order for spy series Chuck. That show will occupy the Monday 20.00 slot through to April 27, and on May 4 it will be replaced by the first episode in a new series of Deal or No Deal.

Made some makeshift 3D glasses using some of my sister's theatre lighting gels... worked pretty decent once I found the right colours. Good episode overall, even if this kind of 3D gives me a headache after about 30 min...

Superman07 02-08-09 08:54 PM

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the 3rd Dimension" -- 3D episode -- 2/2/09

Up fron the 3D was very meh. If you looked away and then back at the screen with the glasses back on you could see the effect. Otherwise it was more of annoyance and actually gave me a little headache and strained my eyes.

As for the episode, I thought it was okay. There were definitely some funny parts, but I actually think it was one of the weakest we've seen so far. I did get the most laughs from the competitions at the Buy More. Chuck and Domanique (good guest star!) were good. However, while necessary, I found the interaction between Chuck, Casey and Sarah to be off. And I don't think it was just because of Chuck's issue, but perhaps.

Speaking of which - I too found it odd they didn't drag out the issue longer. Specifically, with
Spoiler:
Chuck's dad and nemesis (hopefully not Fulcram or intercept related)
coming up, I thought that would have been a meaningful way to resolve it.

What was the IG-88 reference? Was that the Star Wars reference too? Perhpas I got the Star Wars reference, but don't recall.

wmansir 02-08-09 09:35 PM

Re: Chuck -- "Chuck Versus the 3rd Dimension" -- 3D episode -- 2/2/09

IG-88 is a droid bounty hunter in Star Wars. AFAIK, his only appearance in the movies was among the group of bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, who are given the bounty on the Millennium Falcon after the battle on Hoth.
