Probably a bunch of crap off the new album, plus one hit thrown in there grudgingly.

They did rehearse the show. And those rehearsals weren't done in secret.

dex has a time-traveling phone booth he utilizes just to win such challenges.
I enjoyed most of the performances except WOAD (shudder). That was just grotesque. I dunno. I'm torn between admiring Bruce's high-energy performance at age 59 (getting to body to react really does get harder after 50) & feeling like some of what used to appear fun & spontaneous back in the day now seems rehearsed & theatrical ("Glory Days", indeed). Glad we didn't have to endure a political lecture from the Boss. Evidently his invitation to the Ball satisfied him (along with his recent humbling regarding his Wal-Mart fiasco). When you're hired to perform a 12-minute set at the Super Bowl, plugging your new CD by playing a song most of the audience has never heard probably isn't the best move...especially when the crowd can't sing the lyrics over those awful vocals. My wife liked the choir but that's about all...I didn't even like that. Still, a vast improvement over most SB shows. The crowd seemed to love it, too. |

It's obvious that there was going to be new material thrown in. As for the overall performance, I thought that it was great.

Re: The Thread where we predict Springsteen's Super Bowl setlist
Bruce did the show for free, I think he has the right to play 1:40 of his new song. Plus it was better then the new Stones song from a few years ago.

From PerezHilton.com:
"I have an album to promote dummy. It's not rocket science." - Bruce Springsteen to Bob Costas, on why he chose to perform at Sunday's Super Bowl after turning down past invites  |

If you don't get to promote your new CD, why would you take the job playing the SB halftime show?
I dunno...but I do know that, unless Springsteen has the worst business sense in popular music, he has more money than he or his descendants could ever need in several lifetimes. For many years, Bruce was on the list of top-grossing acts, raking in many millions...and he could sell out any tour in a heartbeat (even stadiums in today's economy, assuming that the tickets are reasonably-priced). You can't pick up a Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy sale paper without being aware that he has a new CD out. The internet news pages had it splashed all over, too. Anyway, his appearance alone would insure that tons of people would be checking out his music (if they weren't already aware of the existence of the new CD). Personally...if that performance was a plug for the new CD...it didn't work for me (& I own every Boss CD in addition to boxsets, bootlegs, appearances on soundtracks, tributes, or albums by other artists, etc. Also own all of the 'official' DVDs). Just sayin' that you don't have to be a hater to critique a favorite artist's performance. I just think that this should have been one for the fans & don't think that the WOAD excerpt did anything to enhance sales...it was definitely the weakest segment, and it didn't appear that he or the band was comfortable with performing it yet. Maybe at the end of the tour, but not now. It just seems to smack of a purely calculated, commercial move that someone of his stature doesn't need. However, we still enjoyed the show & laughed along with the E-Streeters. I do wish that Bruce would have given a brief shout-out to the late Danny Federici who recently passed away....I was a little surprised that he didn't yell out, "This one's for you, Danny", or something similar. Maybe he did & we missed it. |

This worthless no talent hack put my to sleep. Some day I'd like to meet someone who actually likes this bum. I dont think I've ever heard anyone say that they like Bruce Springsteen. I guess I just dont hang out with enough people in their 40's and 50's.

Great performance. Of course he was going to play 1 of his new songs. He's promoting a new record!
He's as old as Tony Kornheiser and Kornheiser looks like he could be his dad. Patti's makeup was ridiculous, though. |
