Dexter -- "I Had a Dream" -- 12/7/08

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Dexter preps for his wedding day but must first divorce himself from Miguel, which proves most difficult as Miguel is a prominent D.A. and Dexter's best man. Sylvia confides in Rita that Miguel has been seeing an ex-lover; Debra digs up new clues in the Skinner case.

Other than Arrested Development, I can't think of another recent TV Show that has had 3 straight, strong seasons to come out of the gate.

The finale looks to be amazing.

:jawdrop:

lewisb73 12-07-08 10:18 PM

wow... cant believe what happened... I dont know how its going to be resolved in the finale, but I sure as hell will be there

mwbmis 12-07-08 10:40 PM

Looks like they're opening the door to Deb finding out about Dexter's Mom, which would lead to his brother. Wonder exactly how much Deb will end up finding out, presumably next year.

Drop 12-08-08 09:24 AM

It's really interesting that unlike last year they won't be able to wrap up a lot of storylines. It doesn't look like Dexter and Rita will be married, she certainly won't give birth, Deb will have some nagging family issues, and LaGuerta is gunna be all kinds of traumatized. Not to mention the other Detective relationships that will make it to next season. And I'm hoping that the writers have already planned out the next two seasons so we can have an even greater arc.

Molson1020 12-08-08 12:36 PM

Loved it!

macnorton 12-08-08 12:42 PM

Great episode...with a nice "holy shit" twist in the beginning.

Looking forward to the finale and next season!

Brack 12-08-08 03:19 PM

^^ Agreed, I was totally fooled at the beginning.

dick_grayson 12-08-08 03:27 PM

yeah, my friend and I didn't expect that twist either. great stuff. I can't wait for next week. This is my first season watching it live each week (or dvr'ed), so when does the 4th season start? fall just like everything else?

kantonburg 12-08-08 04:20 PM

I'm glad I'm not the only one fooled by the beginning. I was sitting there thinking that Dexter was going to get the best of the Skinner.

This show is amazing, but I'm actually kind of bummed they killed off Miguel so fast. I was hoping this "rivalry" would build a little more.

Larry C. 12-08-08 04:55 PM

This has to be the BEST show around right now!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't get enough.

A couple of questions.

Did they ever reveal why Oscar was over Freebo's?

Or how Miguel got in touch with the skinner at the end of the previous episode; who is obviously a wanted man.

Did I miss something? Thanks.

Oscar was a drug addict, and in debt to Freebo. He was going to kill Freebo I presume.

Miguel must have talked to the skinner beforehand when he was being held. remember, the video was turned off, so Miguel could say whatever he wanted to the Skinner, which is probably when Miguel started to carry out his plan against Dexter.

PopcornTreeCt 12-08-08 11:02 PM

I really liked it. It ended exactly the way I wanted it to. Can't believe there's only 1 more episode left.

Patman 12-08-08 11:14 PM

I still want to know how Quinn and Angel's girlfriend figure into things.

BDB 12-08-08 11:16 PM

I loved the opening. Fantastic.

sb5 12-08-08 11:31 PM

I wonder how far they're going to take Deb's discovery about her father and the CI; it's pretty much a given that she's going to find out the CI was Dexter's mother, but I wonder if she's going to find out the Ice Truck Killer was Dexter's brother as well (and possibly something about Dexter's other life?). Weren't the records about Dexter's brother supposedly destroyed?

PopcornTreeCt 12-09-08 01:38 AM

I figure the series will end with Deb finding out the truth about Dexter. But that's still at least 25 episodes away.

movieking 12-09-08 06:41 AM

Loved the opening. Fantastic. Totally surprised me. And I can't wait to see what happens with the Prada story next. How long before Dexter knocks off the next Prada brother?

majorjoe23 12-09-08 07:23 AM

Was the room Dexter had covered in plastic LaGuerta's? If so, where was she?

SFranke 12-09-08 08:32 AM

It looked like the lawyer's home/office.

majorjoe23 12-09-08 10:43 AM

Okay, that makes more sense.

I'm rather sorry to see Miguel go; I kind of wanted to see his character span more than one season.

JohnSlider 12-09-08 01:34 PM

If they don't catch the skinner and the police department indeed believes that he killed Prado I wonder if we'll see Carradine back next season to solve the case.

I liked Carradine quite a bit, but I'd be afraid Deb would try to rekindle their fling, and I'm more than bored with Deb's love life. Every season there's been at least one person and every season she's come out of it still single. It's not the flings so much as it is her incessant whining when things aren't going the way she wants them to go.

bluetoast 12-09-08 04:00 PM

I too was one that wanted to see Miguel live on, but only IF he was on the same side as Dexter, and if we'd see a good team-up. Now that we know that's not the case, this episode outcome was good.

Still, it seems a little strange that we keep getting new cast members each season and we return back to the core cast at the end of that season (or less, due to Doakes.). Can one new cast member ever stay for another season? Maybe Quinn can do so. We'll see.

kantonburg 12-09-08 05:01 PM

What was "I had a dream" pertaining to in the episode?

I hope Quinn and Deb live happily ever after.

The "dream" part was Dexter wishing he could have a friend he could trust to share his secret life with.

The "had" part occurred right after Dexter strangled Prado (or possibly when he was trapped in the trunk, thinking he was going to die because of his dream).

Doc Moonlight 12-09-08 09:16 PM

Interesting that Dexter had Miguel bound in the killing room with plastic sheets but then
Spoiler:
(according to the shot of Miguel's body in the prieviews) did not dismember him the way he did with his other victims
. I chalk it up to 2 things: Dexter's passion for ritual (i.e. Harry's code) and his desire to screw with Miguel's mind--having witnessed and participated in the ritual, Miguel was probably expecting to be dismembered.

JohnSlider 12-09-08 09:58 PM

Your post contains an extremely mild thing from the preview for the finale, but in this forum everything from the previews get spoiler tagged. Please edit your post. :)

Brack 12-09-08 10:03 PM

^^^ It's not really a spoiler, considering Dexter said he was going to pin Miguel's death on the Skinner.

Larry C. 12-09-08 10:05 PM

Is it Sunday yet?

Ronnie Dobbs 12-09-08 10:11 PM

Jimmy Smits should have got his own spinoff rather than be killed. He's too good of an actor.

Patman 12-10-08 08:23 AM

It's inevitable, you find out about Dexter's Dark Passenger, and you'll be taking the proverbial dirt nap soon.

Spoiler:
He didn't dismember the body because he's trying to make it look like the Skinner killed Miguel. While the plastic sheets covering the room could be just ritual, I would think that it's really just an added precaution so that absolutely no traceable evidence of any kind can be found.
