HBO's "Rome" to go Bigscreen?

According to Reuters, the series creator of "ROME" has stated that there has been talk and movement to the series returning as a feature film.

It doesn't give many concrete details, but I for one am excited at the prospects of a final return trip to Rome...

Geofferson 12-01-08 10:57 AM

Hope this comes to fruition.

I gave up on HBO after Carnivale and Deadwood were cut short so I haven't seen Rome. However, if this happens I will buy a ticket just to help send the message to revisit their other shows.

McHawkson 12-01-08 11:12 AM

I liked Rome and looking forward to see it on big screen.

mdc3000 12-01-08 11:25 AM

This would be fucking awesome. Rome kicked ass.

BDB 12-01-08 11:26 AM

I would love it. I loved Rome.

CKMorpheus 12-01-08 11:42 AM

Awesome news, hope it happens!

I'm not sure how I feel about this. The series wrapped up the stories of Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo so well. Sure, you could do a movie that focuses on the early years of Augustus's reign, but without those two it just wouldn't be the same.

That said, if they make this, I will definitely watch.

This is a great idea.

Each week was like watching a movie - but with a bigger budget - we would be able to see a good battle.

Giles 12-01-08 01:52 PM

who's the director... Tinto Brass?? ;)

there better be the obligatory orgy scene.

wasn't it budgeted at over 100 million dollars a season?

Yep - actually first season, not sure about 2nd season.

Yes, please.

bluetoast 12-01-08 04:12 PM

Hopefully they can do this without ditching the entire main cast and just calling it "Rome: 10 years later" or something. And a huge part of the show is gone due to a certain character's death. Many people's storylines came to a solid conclusion, but if they can pull this off, I'll be watching.

I thought that it would have been great if the events of Season 1 were spread out over two seasons. Just because Ceasar was awesome.

Ravenous 12-01-08 05:42 PM

Goddamn, that article is just sad....

The season layout till season 5 sounds magnificent and than it states that "HBO executives have since admitted that axing the show probably was a mistake." I fucking hate you HBO.

Ohh and that Vorenus was never shown on the pyre was deliberate... I knew he lived! :D

treszoks 12-01-08 08:07 PM

More Vorenus and Pullo would rock.

PopcornTreeCt 12-01-08 09:29 PM

I'll be there day one.

"THIRTEEN! THIRTEEN!"

ckw4b 12-01-08 11:20 PM

OH HELL YEAH.

The series was fucking amazing and I'm still pissed that HBO axxed it after only 2 seasons.

Joe Schmoe 12-01-08 11:51 PM

The only news better than this would be: HBO greenlights a third season for "Rome." :)

SonOfAStu 12-02-08 06:34 AM

Or, "HBO announces release date for ROME on Blu-Ray."

DVD Josh 12-02-08 08:33 AM

I don't see why they couldn't bring it back. With McKidd not doing anything and Stevenson making what amounts to virtually a direct to dvd release, they appear to be available.

bluetoast 12-02-08 10:47 AM

McKidd is doing Grey's Anatomy, Heller is doing The Mentalist, Polly Walker is doing Caprica. A lot of the key players are busy.

Probably the main reason they don't bring it back is because they probably don't have another $100 million to spend on a season of TV. Especially when they are only paying around $25 million per season of "True Blood." If they do a movie HBO wouldn't be footing the entire bill. Like with "Sex and the City" HBO only paid for about 10% of the movie, the rest was all New Line Cinema.

bluetoast 12-02-08 03:33 PM

HBO didn't foot all of the $100 million, but they did pay enough for it to be damn expensive. They had a partnership with BBC.

McHawkson 12-02-08 03:37 PM

Of course, they didn't. HBO paid $85 million while BBC only paid $15 million.
