Its second season ratings were apparently not strong enough to prompt a renewal by CBS. This is not a good signal for The Unit because The Unit is underperforming Shark year to year last I checked. I love The Unit, but I'm preparing for life without any Shawn Ryan TV by next fall.

I think it aired its whole (strike shortened) order, but it was not picked up for 2008-2009.

They produced 16 episodes in season 2 (4 were made after the strike)

I think the cost of the show (probably James Woods salary) and the fact that it dropped significantly in the ratings after moving to Sunday and then Tuesday did the show in.
