Boston Legal -- "Mad Cows" -- 11/3/08

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

Alan and Denny sue the USDA on behalf of a cattle rancher (Valerie Bertinelli) who wants to test her entire herd for mad cow disease; Jerry's consideration to make partner hinges on an up-or-down vote by the firm's panel, which includes Paul Lewiston (Rene Auberjonois). Julie Bowen guest stars as attorney Denise Bauer, who has been on maternity leave.

Julie Bowen guest stars. Damn, I've missed her on the show.

I read somewhere that 12/02 or 12/09 would be the series finale. That's a lot quicker than I was expecting, I guess I forgot it was only going to be about 13 episodes in the final year.

David E. Kelley really outdid himself. This might be the preachiest episode ever.

I just about fell in the floor laughing at Denny & Alan with the guns and the One Day At A Time theme.
Julie Bowen Jerry also wasn't bad when he was in front of the firm's panel. Good episode overall

The election argument was just plain stupid. Everything else was decent.

I dropped this show halfway through last season but tuned in to see what's new. Nothing apparently. The whole episode was about reasons not to vote Republican. Even the Jerry speech was a metaphor of the current political climate. I miss Denny and Alan, but I can't stomach it. In the court he's fighting and lecturing about too much governmental control over people and at the same time arguing there is not enough.

Having Denny fess up at the end of the show that he voted for Obama due to his disgust with eight years of Bush, redefines "jumping the shark". Totally out of character. Keith Olbermann would have voted for a third Bush term before Denny Crane would have ever considered voting for Obama.

That and why are they both so fired up about it - it's Massachusetts. It's not like Denny's vote matters anyway.

I'm gonna miss this show.

What was all the "spinoff" talk about anyway?

The first episode of the season I watched. "Drill baby drill" - Denny's reasons for voting Republican had me rolling.

"Drill baby drill" was a great line in that context. That part of the argument was very funny.

my favorite part was Denny bitching about being shot in the back after he had fired on Alan. And the ensuing fight had me laughing harder than I had in a long time.

I am gonna miss Denny and Alan. They could do a half hour comedy of them living together.

If they don't quit it with the politics, I'm going to stop watching after this season is over!

I really never understood the people who come to Boston Legal threads every week complaining about the preachy liberal soapboxing. I mean, it's been 5 seasons now; how could you even stand watching the show (or almost any David E. Kelly show) for this long if it bothers you that much?
