Favorite three Simpsons episodes?

My wife, kids, and I are HUGE Simpsons fans, and I swear about every other week, one of us will ask: "What's your favorite episode?" because it changes each time, almost. :) So I'm wondering what you all think are the best/funniest/favorite-ist three episodes?

These three could be mine:

1. You Only Move Twice - The one where the Simpsons move so Homer can take the new job with Mr. Scorpio. Absolute perfection.

2. King-Size Homer - The one where Homer gains weight to get on disability. That episode is SO great. I've seen it probably 8-10 times.

3. Last Exit to Springfield - Two things stand out as absolutely hilarious: 1: Grandpa talking about how he used to wear an onion on his belt, "which was the style in those days" and 2: "Lisa needs braces! DENTAL PLAN!"

Of course, I could just as easily pick three more episodes, and they could be my favorites, instead. ;)

I'm going off the top of my head, so I may forget plenty. But three of my favorites

1) Lisa the Vegetarian - definitely my favorite, this one has everything

2) Who Shot Burns? Part I - like the 2 parter as a whole, but I like this half more

3) Beer Baron

Off the top of my head:

[01] Treehouse of Horror V [well, I had to look up which number it was] - I think that "The Shinning" is the best version of the story available, truthfully...gets the best part of the [almost perfect] book and the [horribly flawed but not without its merits] Kubrick film..and the whole time machine toaster bit has always cracked me up

[02] E-I-E-I-[Annoyed Grunt] - Tomacco + the B-52's + an "I Heart Dueling" bumpersticker? Sign me up.

[03] Homerpalooza - An easy one, but amazing.

Runner up for the "Citizen Kang" short from whatever Treehouse of Horror that one is. Everytime a friend and I are driving around town and hit Clinton Ave, we have to reference it. "Take me to your leader - Clin-Ton."

That would be number VII

My picks...

Rosebud

Kamp Krusty

Bart the Lover...Lace up your skates, Gordie; you're goin' in.

Homer At the Bat

Scenes from a Class Struggle in Springfield

Boy Scoutz 'n' The Hood

Lateralus 10-02-08 06:14 PM

[2F12] Homer the Clown -- Homer goes to clown college, Flanders getting shot twice probably the funniest Simpsons moment ever.

[8F18 ] A Streetcar Named Marge -- Usually don't like Marge episodes but the play director and the Ayn Rand school for tots had me rolling!

[3F17] Bart on the Road -- Bart gets a drivers license and everybody goes to the world's fair in Knoxville instead of the grammer rodeo.

[2F17] Radioactive Man -- "The goggles, they do nothing!"

[4F11] Homer's Phobia -- The gay Steelworkers and the "Zaaaap" quote by John Waters.

Episodes I hate... any episode with Bleeding Gums Murphy.

gmanca 10-02-08 06:30 PM

I agree with your first two choices modfather and I'd choose the Flying Hellfish one as a third.

3. Lisa the Vegetarian

2. Trash of the Titans

1. The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson

GoldenJCJ 10-02-08 06:36 PM

1. "Lemon of Troy" - The one where the kids go to Shelbyville to retrieve their Lemon Tree. My absolute favorite Episode!

2. "Lisa the Iconoclast" - The one where Lisa discovers Jebediah Springfield was a fraud.

3. Three Men and a comic Book" - The one where Bart, Milhouse, and Martin buy the 1st issue of Radioactive Man together.

Additionally, I don't think I ever saw an episode featuring Sideshow Bob that was less than stellar!

Ahh yes, I had forgotten about that one. "We work hard...and we PLAY hard!"

Nearly fell out of my chair laughing at that one the first time I saw it.

Homer at the Bat is my favorite. It's hard to pick the other 2, but the ones of note that I can think of is the one with Hank Scorpio as well as the Treehouse of Horror with Homer in 3D.

The Radioactive Man movie and the comic book were great, as were dozens of others.

The Bus 10-02-08 07:33 PM

These are all classics. King-Size Homer came to mind immediately.

I'm shocked no one has mentioned Mr. Sparkle.

SexualPudding 10-02-08 08:04 PM

"Homie the Clown" is up there for me. I think I will find the part where Homer pummels the Krustyburglar guy to death in front of the little kids hilarious for the rest of my life, regardless of how many times I see it.

I also love a lot of the ones listed already, like "King Size Homer", "Homer at the Bat", and "Lemon of Troy." I'll list 3 more of my favorites that haven't been mentioned yet, just for shits and giggles:

-"The Cartridge Family"- Homer shooting the lights out and shooting his beer cans open is priceless.

"Homer: Bad Man"- the whole episode is great, but a highlight for me is when they are showing the helicopter flyover of the house on the news, and you can see the family's thermal images, and Kent Brockman talks about the cat going outside, and says "possibly because it was molested."

"Bart Sells His Soul"

DthRdrX 10-02-08 08:23 PM

The ones that come to mind are:

Who Shot Mr. Burns 1&2

Homer's Enemy

Homer at Bat

Beer Baron - I love how competent and crafty Homer is, plus Homer's coverup of his stills exploding.

Bart's Comet - Great set-up with the weather balloon and punishment. 'We are the Superfriends!' And the whole town in Ned's bomb shelter.

i cant stand sideshow bob episodes for some reason.

also there is no way i can dwindle the simpsons down to 3 episodes.

the one where homer gets fat is in my tops for sure though.

dan30oly 10-02-08 11:01 PM

is my favorite episode.

I can't think of 2 others...

zekeburger1979 10-02-08 11:14 PM

Marge vs. the Monorail is my favorite episode and like dan30oly, I can't think of 2 others.

ruddiger_718 10-02-08 11:52 PM

1- You Only Move Twice - Great episode all together, and my all time favorite one time character with Hank Scorpio

2- Homer Goes to College - My favorite Homer story, and I love the college movie homages.

3- Thank God its Doomsday - Best episode in the past decade, with a fantasic third act of Homer in heaven.

Charlie Goose 10-03-08 09:22 AM

I don't know titles.

Kamp Krusty

Monorail

Bart cheats on a test and is thought to be a genius

slop101 10-03-08 10:06 AM

Can't keep it to just three, so here's my top-5 (even that was tough to narrow down), in production order, though they're all from seasons 4 & 5:

- Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie

- Marge Gets A Job

- Duffless

- Deep Space Homer

- The Boy Who Knew Too Much

clckworang 10-03-08 10:13 AM

I just don't think I can make this call. If I did, I would probably be back here 30 minutes later editing my rankings because I realized that I had totally forgotten about some episode.

Adboy151 10-03-08 11:33 AM

1. You Only Movie Twice (Albert Brooks kills in this episode -- "HAMMOCKS! Why didn't I think of that!" I truly wish Scorpio had been the villain in the movie.)

2. Cape Feare (The ultimate Sideshow Bob episode)

3. Homer's Phobia

Shout out to Lisa's Rival ("First you get the sugar, then you get the women and then you get the power," "My cat's breath smells like cat food" and of course, "I bent my Wookie") and Marge vs. the Monorail.

JohnSlider 10-03-08 11:39 AM

Radio Bart
Marge vs. The Monorail
Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment

Well, they have come to be quite redundant. Sideshow Bob is freed, he claims he's reformed and is just moving on with his life, turns out to be another plan to get Bart, etc.

But I still think that his episodes are pretty well written within that framework and Kelsey Grammer always does a fantastic job each time out.
