Gary, Unmarried (Jay Mohr, Ed Begley Jr.) - Series Premiere (9/24/08)
Right from the CBS Page:
Jay Mohr stars as Gary Barnes, a recently single painting contractor who must deal with his controlling ex-wife, Allison, as he faces post-divorce mayhem after 15 years of marriage.
Pilot: Gary Brooks is adjusting to single life and learning to deal with his ex-wife.
CBS, 8:30pm...sandwiched in between Christine and Criminal Minds

I know Jay Mohr is a love-em-or-hate-em type of guy but I personally love him. He has a certain douche quality about his humor that I like.
And Action! was one of my favorite sitcoms of all time.
Seems like a generic concept that I really hope is written well. I guess we'll see if Jay can carry a television show. Now much buzz on DVDTalk which I think is not a good sign.

Traditional, stupid sitcom. And yet, I found it wonderfully charming. The situations Gary is put into seem fairly realistic, and the humor appears to come from a natural, truthful place. In addition, Jay Mohr (whom I generally despise) seems relaxed in the role, and his character comes across as a loving, competent father.
All this having been said, I hope this lasts. If the season continues along the lines that this pilot has set forth, in conjunction with their renewing of both The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother, I believe CBS has a chance at establishing itself as more than "the network that youth forgot."
"I buy my bread at the store. I support America."

So that was Jamie King. I kept trying to figure out if it was her because her hair is darker and shes filled out a bit. Still hot though.
And I tuned in with the expectation of bailing after 5 minutes of ineptitude but was surprised that I actually enjoyed it.

Also I noticed a continuity error with Paula Marshall/Allison and her jacket being off-on-off when she was seated and talking with Jay Mohr/Gary in the living room. Seemed odd for a sitcom.

Agreed. Nothing special about this show and I get the feeling it won't last long but I did enjoy it the same way I enjoyed The Rules of Engagement. Its a senseless 30 minutes and there are enough laughs and good moments to keep watching.

I kinda liked it. It seems like a perfectly bland sitcom, which is what most of these shows are. I love Paula Marshall, so I'd watch just for her, but I actually didn't find Mohr too annoying, which I usually do.

If I was a television executive, I don't think I would cast her. Sorry.

Well, I had high hopes because it is Jay Mohr, but was a bit apprehensive to be honest, especially after Jadzia made me go out and find reviews.
But I thought it was really really good. Sure it was a formula sitcom but I think what matters the most is the writing and I thought they did a great job with it.
Some seriously funny lines in this show last night. I didn't think Jay could pull off the parent role but I thought he did a good job. Good chemistry between the cast for a pilot and I hope it gets better.
Definitely not a sitcom like Scrubs, Arrested Development (one of my favorite shows), the Office, etc where watching it makes you one of the "cool kids", but a well done traditional sitcom.
I hope it finds an audience and I can really see this show getting better after the pilot and the stories are established.
B+

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I am encouraged by the posts here.
The advance reviews I had seen (I in TV Guide and EW) were negative, while they praised Worst Week as the best new comedy instead.
I had to record this on an alternate DVR due to all the conflicts I have. Will check it out soon. It has to be better than Do Not Disturb - I didn't even make through that pilot.

I thought it had it's moments...and since Begley is playing a character who shares my last name, I thought that was awesome.... although everytime I see Paula Marshall I flash back to the hot tub scene on nip tuck...and little Sarah Silverman singing the 'poop song'... other than that fecal baggage (x2) it was entertaining.
