I don't like the new Ruby as much either...but everything else about this episode was FUCKING WICKED. Early in the ep as soon as they were talking about how even the Demons didn't know who got Dean back, I KNEW it was God's doing... so I was pretty thrilled when the angel showed up and they went there... it's about fucking time - it's hard to NOT have the light when the show is so filled with dark. Really awesome episode, great recap as usual and I really dig the new "Supernatural" title card - WAY better than last years IMO.

I rewatched this and it was just as good the second time. A couple of things I caught:

Bobby says the psychic woman is "A sight for sore eyes" when they meet on the porch.

When Dean tells Sam he can't remember anything from his time in Hell Sam says "Thank God for that."

@achau9598
I couldn't find any reruns in the listings. The CW shows full eps on their site, but the latest one is the previous season finale.

One hell of a season opener!!!!

For a second there, I thought the Angel was going to be John Constantine.

I also think we are eventually headed for a Brother vs. Brother showdown by the end of the season or series.

Dean slapping that demon in the diner was great!

Speaking of which... the demons no nothing of God and the angels?

Holy Moley.

Loved: Castiel and the actor playing him. There is just something off about him that is fascinating...and he had an awesome entrance. The new title card. Dean, Dean, Dean.

Liked: Sam's new "power". It looked a little silly with him holding his hand out and furrowing his brow, but I like the idea of it. They'll be able to tweak the visual.

Hated: New Ruby. Flat acting, no chemistry with Sam. Hopefully she'll improve over the next few episodes...or Ruby can just switch bodies.

I am so excited for this season!

Dumb question, I know but....the girl in Sam's apartment when Dean and Bobby come by was NOT Ruby, right? Just another (hot) brunette chick?

Fantastic episode, one of the best of the series so far. It was amazing how much humor they fit into this episode considering how serious the subject matter was.

That's pure speculation on the part of the poster... I think the Canadian/US exchange rate could be valid...their US dollars used to go a lot further than they do now - for a show that doesn't get HUGE ratings, it's not crazy for them to cut the budget a bit... especially a show like this where only 3 of the cast members are integral to the story (2 if you're a Bobby hater).

Not a dumb question at all, my roommate and I totally disagreed on whether or not it was the same girl especially with the implication that if it is the same girl, then Sam is probably sleeping with a demon.

If you believe TV.com and throngs of wildfire fans who've invaded supernatural fan sites, then yes Genevieve Cortese played both Kristy and Ruby.

It's definitely the same chick. The way they lit Ruby's face is so bad that I wouldn't be certain if it wasn't for the voice. Here's some quick comparison I made. On the left is "Kristy" answering the door, on the right Ruby sitting in the diner booth with the levels tweaked so you can see her face better.

@Zee
The 'budget cut' link in a previous post said that the actresses for Ruby and Bela were dropped for budget reasons and suggests that this season Ruby may be portrayed by several different actresses in order to save money.

There was so much awesome in this ep. I had to leave it on my DVR just so I can watch it again to remember it all.

Oh, and Dean says "douche". Comedy gold.

Great opening episode. Dean is such a great character. He probably has some of the best 1-liners on TV. Loved the part when Dean threw out the Ipod.

I noticed that too. He's probably sipping on some Badger Milk.

Great episode. I just got into this series last season.

I found it odd though that Dean believes in demons and had actually been to hell but had such a hard time believing in angels, heaven, and even god.

Did I miss something?

They cut the budget for a horrible new teen show?
Oh brother.

Satisfying premiere. Can't wait to see what comes next.

Considering that he's been a Hunter for the majority of his life with absolutely ZERO help from the "other side", I could see how Dean would have a hard time believing that God even exists.

Ok I am confused. My local CW aired these in tv format but weren't the past seasons in widescreen?

I am pretty sure the whole series was aired in widescreen.

That's what I am thinking since even the flashbacks were in widescreen but the rest of the show wasn't. I think my local affiliate did something because even the local commercials ran off the screen like it was zoomed in a little.
