He's mostly famous for being famous. He was great in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and is a pretty entertaining interviewee on talk shows. His standup bit he just did sucked a nut, though.

Spears wised up and wore something a little less revealing, and she doesn't come off as a train wreck, good for her.

That was one of the worst cases of bait and switch i have ever seen. Yeah right, Britney Spears fucking opened the VMA's. ha ha!

My question is: does people actually watch this crap? I mean, every now and then I hear Viacom executives saying that they are losing money and failing in attracting viewers for the MTV family of networks and that the much cherished 18-35 demographic is not tuning in. So I ask myself, can't they fucking not see the reason why this is happening. Of all the tv channels, MTV and all of its spawns, are the ones that have changed the most for the past 25 years. They went from a music television channell to reality crap on a stick with almost no music in their programming. And these idiots wonder why people are tuning out!!!

Last I read, ratings for regular shows were up, just ratings for the VMAs/Movie Awards were down. I don't watch MTV at all anymore outside of an occasional award show, so I don't actually know what is on there anymore, last I checked it was pretty horrible.

It makes sense that they don't show music videos when they can get cheap-as-dirt reality TV shows on air that score twice as well.

nevermind...Pink wins!

see i don't watch MTV...ever! but i will watch the VMA's simply for the performances. and you know what they are always quite good with exceptions of course (see Britney 2007). but when these performers go all out and actually sing and sing live it is something to see. i watch for that and i couldn't tell you who won or lost what. i just dig music, especially live and i will gladly have a sleep hangover tomorrow for it.

I thought I hit a time warp what with Linkin Park, Britney, Christina, and Pink being relavent.

Rock video selection was pretty awful, so no surprise there.

I hope that not-as-hot Leeloo Dallas found her multipass. She was trying her damndest to sound like Fallout Boy.

The host (Russell Brand) is (I guess) somewhat known because on September 12th, 2001, when he was a host on MTV in the UK, he came to work dressed as Osama Bin Laden, and they fired him.

Despite that, I had never heard of him until Forgetting Sarah Marshall came out.

I can't tell if the acoustics are fucked or if she's just fucking up the lipsyncing (weird since she's the one that never seemed to need to) or just singing backup to her master track.
