TurboHD - New Dish Service
Has anybody come across this yet? It sounds intriguing, but still seems to be missing some channels that are available through other services. I wonder who will be the first to have all of the typical (?) non-standard channels in HD? On the up side, the pricing appears reasonable. I believe pricing (on some packages) includes DVR box.

So is it just Dish Network coming up with a way to charge you more for HD channels? I guess it's cost effective if all you want is HD.

They added a few channels, repackaged their service and raised their prices.
FX is still not in HD on Dish, so if you're a fan of the shield...be warned. |

FX is still not in HD on Dish, so if you're a fan of the shield...be warned. It was: base HD package for $10, the better one was $20. Been creeping up ever since and the move of HDnet movies / Universal HD /etc IMO put the best of the HD channels as an extra charge. And is that an extra $5 for HD locals above and beyond the normal charge for locals? We bailed to an HD Tivo with lifetime and back to Charter again. Looks like just in time. |

Acutally Doctor Who is not flimed In HD. Although Torchwood is. After the long break Doctor who will probably be in HD.

I noticed that I did not see any of the old Voom channels that Dish used to carry on this new Turbo package (actually I can't find them anywhere on their site). Did they dump them?
|
Yep, they did, a few months ago. Made me very mad, too (I loved Monsters HD).

Stupid question (that doesn't warrant its own thread): my current HDTV is 3 years old, and will display 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. What would happen if I signed up for this new service (which is advertised as 1080p)? I know that most devices (like the XBOX 360) can downscale the 1080p to something your TV can handle... but what about this? And what about Bluray players?
Sorry for the stupid question - I've been out of the HD hardware market for a while now. |
I finally went through the online process to see how much it would really be. Basically, if you have 1 TV it's a great deal (stays at 24.99 and looks like you can get a year of Cinemax for a penny). Adding a second HDTV was an additional $12 a month, which seems ridiculous to me.

Sorry for the stupid question - I've been out of the HD hardware market for a while now. Only the PPV (On-Demand) movies are 1080P. You would select the best resolution for your set. My VIP-622 outputs only 720P or 1080i, so I don't understand the hype of 1080P if their box won't even output the signal. |
Re: TurboHD - New Dish Service
I don't know if you guys noticed, but Dish finally added Turner Classic Movies in HD to their lineup!!!

Re: TurboHD - New Dish Service
Dish Network is now in a dispute with Disney and in the process they have taken away Disney HD, Disney XD HD, ABC Family HD and ESPN News HD.
