Either way this show looks like it stinks, and hopefully will die after the 2nd season. Any show that has a 9 episode first season and premieres on a thursday night is asking for it

Well, maybe get creative and make commercials that don't suck?

^ Agreed. We need more boobies in our commercials over here.

Rogue588 06-14-08 10:50 PM

No doubt. If they added more boobies of the female variety and not the "sweaty, chubby" male variety, i'd wouldn't mind watching commercials..

Oh please. You'll skip them just the same. And not everyone has the budget or talent to make a truly creative commercial.

Well then perhaps they're in the wrong line of work?

Please forgive me for not being a good little consumer drone who's civic duty is to watch each and every ad on tv.

I used to make regional and local commercials. Believe me, if every commercial had to be a work of art we'd have far fewer commercials. It's completely unrealistic to expect the pool store down the street to make something that competes against national ads with multi-million dollar budgets. I've done commercials for less than $5000, and while I always tried to be creative, there is only so much we can do.

And you act like watching the commercials is something you shouldn't have to do. Do you believe that people that make these televisions shows should work for free? Like it or not, commercials pay the bills. Since you treat them with such disdain, perhaps you aren't interested in seeing your favorite shows anymore.

And I'll admit I'm just as guilty. I skip commercials every time. But I am actually to the point now that I would pay for television. I regularly buy the DVDs of my favorite shows, so if I could pay a comparable amount of money for HD episodes of something like "30 Rock" and own the "set" when it was done, I'd gladly do it. I'd like to see things go to this model.

Did they change the placement of the Engvall ads? When I saw them this week, when he unpaused the show it faded out and went to commercial. I thought these were in the middle of the episode.

The Cow 06-15-08 05:16 PM

Just flipping channels and stopped on a Bill Envall show episode from last year (I do think he is kinda funny in a Tim Taylor kinda way).

Anyway, there is a banner at the bottom during the WHOLE show that says "you're watching a special presentation of the TBS family comedy. all new episodes on tbs thursdays 9/8c"

Wow, that makes you hate a show before even seeing it. How can these ad guys be so stupid? Just wow.

Tbs = The Bill Engvall Show.

(and ads for Kyra Sedgwicks big lips)

whotony 06-16-08 10:14 PM

i saw that bottom banner too.

the only thing that ca save this by the numbers show
is if the daughter becomes the star and shows more leverage.

how about more creative commercials? If commercials are good enough, people will watch them. Many people just watch the Superbowl every year just to see the commercials!

Again, how does the carpet store down the street compete with Madison Avenue? You think those commercials come cheap?

And I don't believe for one second that people would start watching every commercial again, no matter how creative. The horses are long gone from that barn.
