After the Jag and Robert Irvine fiasco, I would expect that the FN would be a little more careful with checking credentials. Looking forward to the episode tonight.

Awful way to start this season.

Right now I'm going to tell you that I am already sick of Nipa "God's Gift to Food Network" Bhatt and Shane "Crybaby" Lyons. I can stomach Lisa "Look At Me" Garza for awhile... but the other two got on my nerves already.

Right now I'm rooting for either Kevin or Aaron.

... and I wasn't surprised to see the following go home:

Spoiler:
Cory really blew it. She's a stand-up comedian for heavens sake... she's better than that:

I had to change the channel when Shane was bawling all over the place. Wasn't it just a little to early to play that card? Additionally, it's not like they ripped into him.

So far, the only ones I really like are Jennifer and Jeffrey - they seem to be the most down to Earth. Lisa's not too bad, either, but I can see her abrasive personality causing a few problems here and there.

Mok 06-02-08 09:30 AM

Jennifer seems like a shoe in to win she has the total package.

I agree. If she can work that "chef comes home after a long day of fancy dishes and cooks simple meals that her kids will like" hook, she'll garner plenty of viewers.

Lisa just irritates me.

Food Network already has that show with 30-Minute Meals. I'm not a fan of Nipa. However, she has an advantage because to my knowledge, the FN has never had a show about Indian food.

LurkerDan 06-02-08 01:46 PM

Lisa is a whack job. Shane is really really young, there's no way he can make it. Nipa is annoying as fuck. And Cory was a surprise.

Thrush 06-03-08 06:38 AM

Lisa looks like a Romulan.

You're right! I knew that she reminded me of something.

Episode 2 (6/8) - All Aboard the 'Dinner: Impossible' Express (guest Robert Irvine)

Nipa needs to go. Her walking out on the judges was a dumb move.

I was surprised that they...
Spoiler:
... eliminated Kevin. I really thought he'd be around for a little bit.

I would have rather seen Nipa go... or even Adam (raw eggs... ewwwwww!).

Next week: Show your culinary point of view through using...
Spoiler:
A POTATO!

Sweet Baby James 06-10-08 10:45 AM

I think that Flay was the reason why Kevin got the boot. The look on Bobby's face was priceless when Kevin started up with his "luv" theme of cooking. It appears to me that Flay has the most stroke as to who goes and who stays.

Jadzia 06-10-08 12:07 PM

I think the only thing that saved Nipa was that she has a unique culinary point of view.

TomOpus 06-10-08 06:38 PM

I don't see Nipa lasting too long. She seems pleasant but I don't think her personality is strong enough plus I'm not sure how long a show about Indian food would last.

It's interesting that out of all these shows winners, Guy Fieri is the only one that's still around. And they love him because he's everywhere. His "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" is one of my favorite shows.

kenage 06-11-08 05:08 PM

Guy Fieri won this show before? I had wondered where he came from.

Goldberg74 06-11-08 06:02 PM

Here's a "Where Are They Now" of the winners of The Next Food Network Star (with a link an interview for each).

SEASON ONE - Dan Smith & Steve McDonagh
Party Line with The Hearty Boys now shows at 4:00 AM.

SEASON TWO - Guy Fieri
Fieri was awarded a six-episode commitment for his own cooking show on Food Network, called Guy's Big Bite, which premiered on June 25, 2006 and was renewed for a second season that began airing in early 2007. His second series, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, premiered in April, 2007 (a one-hour pilot for the series aired as a special in November 2006) and sees Fieri traveling the country visiting local eateries. His third series, Ultimate Recipe Showdown, co-hosted with Marc Summers, began airing on February 17, 2008. He appeared with Robert Irvine in Dinner: Impossible in 2007.
SEASON THREE - Amy Finley
The Gourmet Next Door was named after the theme she adopted through the competition, demonstrating the ease of cooking like a gourmet chef at home. The show aired from October 14 to December 23, 2007, for a total of six episodes, after which it was quietly replaced in its timeslot with reruns of Guy's Big Bite. Following months of speculation, Finley revealed in May 2008 that she had voluntarily turned down the opportunity to return for a second season, citing the stress of the obligations of being a television personality. She currently resides in Burgundy, France with her family.

Deftones 06-11-08 06:35 PM

That comparison of Lisa to a Romulan is great.

She annoys the fuck out of me. I want to punch her in the face. I can't see her lasting too much longer, as you can see Alton Brown is already annoyed with her.

Lisa did a complete 180 in the most recent episode; she was easily the most likable one.

4am? Ouch. I guess it's cool having a cooking show but when only 20 people watch....

Sweet Baby James 06-11-08 11:30 PM

The Gourmet Next Door was truly terrible and Amy was annoying as hell. If Jag wasn't such a lying sack of shit, she wouldn't have even made the final two.

Goldberg74 06-16-08 08:39 AM

Episode 3 (6/15) - "You Say Potato..." & "Product Yourself" (guest Martha Stewart)

Lisa bombed that first challenged. I was rotfl.

I really wish Aaron would have told us something about him.

... and then when they jumped to the second, I was a little scared that it was going to be a disaster for some, but all thoughts of that fluttered away when MS came out and Kelsie and Lisa swooned and stuttered over their 'idol.'

And Adam needs to be never do that again (I'm referring to the harmonica).

Not that Martha added much to the ep.

Line of the night: "... and then 5 tables down, you'll go [jazz hands]Jeffrey[/jazz hands]!"

Anyways... looks the contestants are having the same problems that they've had for, and therefor wasn't surprised when they cut...
Spoiler:
Jeffrey.

Next week looks like a complete meltdown.

Should be fun. ;)

Sweet Baby James 06-16-08 09:30 AM

Adam is pathetic with his schtick. Lisa and Kelsey are scary with their hero worship over a felon. Kelsey is either a phony or a robotic freak. Jennifer has already played the "I miss my daughter. I'm doing this for her" card early in the game. Martha has some nerve saying that she doesn't eat sloppy joes. I'm sure that she has eaten a lot worse during her 6 months in the can. I'm rooting for Aaron.
