"Fringe" - new show from JJ Abrams

will start airing this fall on fox.

http://www.fox.com/programming/shows...inge_video.htm

From J.J. Abrams ("Lost"), Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the team behind "Star Trek," "Mission: Impossible III" and "Alias," comes a new drama that will thrill, terrify and explore the blurring line between science fiction and reality.

When an international flight lands at Boston's Logan Airport and the passengers and crew have all died grisly deaths, FBI Special Agent OLIVIA DUNHAM (newcomer Anna Torv) is called in to investigate. After her partner, Special Agent JOHN SCOTT (Mark Valley, "Boston Legal"), is nearly killed during the investigation, a desperate Olivia searches frantically for someone to help, leading her to DR. WALTER BISHOP (John Noble, "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King"), our generation's Einstein. There's only one catch: he's been institutionalized for the last 20 years, and the only way to question him requires pulling his estranged son PETER (Joshua Jackson, "Dawson's Creek") in to help.

When Olivia's investigation leads her to manipulative corporate executive NINA SHARP (Blair Brown, "Altered States"), our unlikely trio along with fellow FBI Agents PHILLIP BROYLES (Lance Reddick, "The Wire"), CHARLIE FRANCIS (Kirk Acevedo, "Oz") and ASTRID FARNSWORTH (Jasika Nicole, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent") will discover that what happened on Flight 627 is only a small piece of a larger, more shocking truth.

FRINGE is directed by Emmy Award-winning Alex Graves ("The West Wing") and produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions.

Oh no, does this mean no more Lt. Daniels on Lost?

This seems boring, for some reason...I can barely follow the storyline as it is written, seems convoluted.

I'll watch with the hopes that they ditch the freak of the week episodes early on.

This sounds interesting. With J.J. behind the scenes and Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman as writers, I think this could have alot of potential. I'll definitely tune in.

I just watched the preview and it looks quite interesting and feature film quality....especially with a reported $10M budget for the pilot.

Sounds good. The plot description is poorly written (with the required intros to characters) but I'm in for the pilot. Funny seeing a pilot get a higher budget than numerous movies out there.

The ads look sorta X-file-ish. The premise sounds familiar too.

Remember, the pilot episode of Lost was the most expensive pilot produced up until this point (and also ironically cost Lloyd Braun his job).

According to this:

FOX has faith in Fringe as well as Whedon's Dollhouse.

If this show is of any quality, FOX will cancel it by the end of the season.

It will be too hard for the average viewer to follow so yes, they will cancel it.

I like Reddick and Acervado, and I give most shows a chance, so I'm looking forward to this.

I am surprised it took this long for someone to recognize the star power of Joshua Jackson. I guess the Pacey baggage was a little to heavy.

Fringe and Dollhouse on FOX? One of these (likely both) is going to fail big time.

Wasn't Drive pretty expensive to make as well?

I hope this show (and Dollhouse) work. This also looks to have a little of Alias thrown in too. FOX is shaping up to be my network of choice next season:

Simpsons
Family Guy
American Dad
King of the Hill
Bones
House
Terminator
Prison Break
24
Dollhouse
Fringe

Yikes!

J.J. Abrams and Joshua Jackson is enough to get this one a glance in my house. Doesn't hurt that it sounds interesting anyway.

That's a pretty badass cast. With no disrespect to Orci and Kurtzman, though, this show will only be as good as Abrams' level of involvement, which I fear could be minimal. Alex Graves sounds like a solid choice for the pilot. I don't consider him one of the elite television directors, but he's in the neighborhood and has some unique talents. I really like how he handled "Commencement", and he did a good job on the tricky debate episode of The West Wing.
