How I Met Your Mother - 05/12/08 - "Everything Must Go"

As their expenses continue to mount, Marshall and Lily decide to sell some of their possessions online.
I think this week is also the return of
Spoiler:
Britney Spears.

The website from tonight's show is already up. It's for charity:

Wow... this episode really sucked. They had no idea what to do with Britney. I liked that she was the one bad mouthing Barney, but after that, meh.

The cowboy boots were annoying and I didn't care about Lily's paintings either.

I did enjoy the tag at the end with Britney and Barney though, which does set up a possible third appearance for her.

Britney really didn't look or sound good. Whoever was in charge of trying to talk her out of a repeat appearance screwed up. Bad. I wonder what the takes they DIDN'T used looked like? Can't wait to see if she does a commentary track for the DVD set.

But Lily was all over the episode, so I'm happy. (We even got a redhead flashback moment!) And I was worried they'd have a sappy ending, but Paintings For Dogs (But Not Birds) was a pretty clever way to deal with everything.

How, exactly, can you make money by selling your used clothes on a website? How would any random prospective customer even know to look for it? Was there some legal reason they just couldn't have used eBay?

Because they wanted their own charity auction after the show. Plus, you post links on Craigslist

Now I know why this show is on the bubble. If this is the best a struggling show can do to stay on the air, maybe cancellation is best.

?? Did you skip last week or something? It just seemed like a really rushed episode, not surprising.

Not a very good episode, IMO, and the Britney storyline was just tacked on.

I guess the official site is Lilyandmarshallselltheirstuff.com, but the one I posted works as well. Looks like the site is down right now.

I thought there was a decent episode in there, but Britney killed it. Could there be a worse actor?

Not a fan of this episode. The thing with the cowboy boots was mildly funny.

Uh, don't you think EVERY episode should be good at this point? Just what the network wants, a wildly uneven show.

I've never seen a show where every episode has been good. Even if there wasn't a strike, every series has its stinkers.

Beyond the overall mediocrity of this episode, the over-the-top gay couple made me wince. It was like something straight from the '70s.

Paul Lynde would've been embarrassed for them.

Britney was indeed terrible. She was okay in her first appearance, but not as an episode focus.

And I didn't much care for the deus ex machina of Lily's new ridiculous art career.

This episode seemed to be built by committee...
"Hey we need a clever way to promote this charity thing."
"I think we need to bring Britney back, our ratings jumped last time we had her on."
"Let's combine them!"

I had no problems with it. The show I'm currently rehearsing has several members that fit this "stereotype" to a T. They are great guys and completely embrace it.

This wasn't my favorite episode by any stretch, but I did get a laugh out of Robin buying all of Lily's stuff.

The red boots bit had no real payoff, unless the "pulling ... it ... off" from the gay couple was supposed to be the funny climax. I wonder if that's the end of it, or if they're setting something up for later.

Britney did ok the first time, but they definitely didn't need to bring her back.

At least the vet was funny ... I always enjoy his bits on the Daily Show.

Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute... Paul "Center Square" Lynde was gay?!

Is Britney pregnant? When she came in to the bar in that blue shirt, her stomach looked about six months pregnant. At first, I thought that was part of their act to Ted.

Can someone please recap what happened during the pre-credit sequence? For some reason my Tivo recording only started at the opening credits and I caught there was a second of a scene with Barney & Britney.
