SNL 05/10/08 - H: Shia Labeouf - MG: My Morning Jacket

Only been 13 months since the last time he hosted.

Hopefully we don't get a repeat of the "Sofa King" commercial.

Next week's hosting duties fall on Steve Carell and musical guest Usher.

This will be the season finale.

Wow, I don't think I've seen an SNL thread with so little activity.

MacGruber was awesome, though it's usually pretty good. The Match Game parody was kinda weird, why not do the actual people instead of loose parodies (Would have been really great if they could have gotten Baldwin to do Charles Nelson Reilly).

Well, the long-winded Hilary skit pretty much did me in, and I vaguely remember Shia taking questions from the audience, but then I fell asleep, so I'll have to catch up and zip through the episode this morning.

The funniest part was the MacGruber skit where Shia threw up in Rachel's mouth just before the bomb exploded. Other than that, I honestly can't remember anything else that might have made me laugh.

Wow, this was a VERY funny episode. IMHO, one of the best SNLs in YEARS. As usual, most of the sketches ran a bit too long (and the last one was simply rank, no, yes.) But very good episode. McGrubers were classic.

I've never laughed at any of the McGrubers, but all three of them were spot on this week. Shia was an excellent host.

EDIT: NBC finally cleaned it up

I agree, strong episode for SNL, even with an odd "WTF" sketch or two. The McGruber with Shia puking was great.

Overall, definitely one of the better episodes this season, except for the closing skit, which was just dumb.

The Match Game parody was just about the only time I've laughed out loud all season so I guess this rates as a solid show on the very, very sad SNL scale.

The Match Game parody was awful.

If done fifteen years ago, it would've been highly superior and would've had the entire SNL cast just riffing it -- not just a few. They also would've made fun of the actual people and not loose parodies as someone mentioned.

MacGruber was the only highlight of the night.

Did anyone understand the skit towards the end with the 2 girls getting champagne from the guys with the creepy smiles?

You've got to admit, the Paul Lynde was spot on. He made that skit for me.

I thought this was a very solid episode, for once. Labeouf makes for a good host.

It was just supposed to be funny I think.

A better question is if anyone understood the FINAL sketch.

That show was Sofa King not funny. Except for the skit with Kirsten and Amy in the restaurant with the awkward guys smiling. "I wonder what they're all thinking?" Also, possibly the only Digital Short I've hated in a while (aside from Laser Cats). I might have even preferred their tour of the 30 Rock roof garden that they were running as one of this week's promo.

Very good episode. The Match Game parody was indeed a little odd, but funny enough. I usually don't like the MacGruber skits, but at least there was some plot link this time.

Best sketch for me was KT as a convict doing the scared straight thing. I also liked the monologue with SL meeting some characters from past Indiana Jones movies.

Short Round (Poehler) was in the monologue, a picture of him was shown during the Weekend Update, and reference to Data from The Goonies was made during the scared straight skit. That's more exposure than that guy's had in 25 years!

I actually liked the Match Game sketch, but I agree it was odd they went with the loose parodies... even the show itself was renamed to "It's a Match". The Digital Short was horrible.

The theme of this episode was gay, gay, gay. MacGyver's son, black guy trying to scare the kids with man love, imitation Paul Lynne, men with no pants digital short, the 'transformers.' Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Show tonight was OK by SNL standards. Some standouts for me. Shia's barfing made me crack up. A couple of laughs during WU. Shia was a decent host.

The lack of response to the show may be due to SNL taking more time off for new episodes. Who can follow the show when they are gone for months because of the writer's strike then air a few shows, take another break, show more repeats and then come back with 2 more shows?

Charles Nelson Reilly is NOT Paul Lynde!
