Your Top Ten Childhood Shows?
Slightly off topic from the regular TV show threads, but...
I'm working on an article for an online publication that counts down the top 20 childhood shows. These will mostly be from the late 80's to the mid 90's, so it would help if you were born in the late 70's or early to mid 80's. But I'd love to know what people's top ten (or even 20) childhood shows were so I can get a gauge of what people liked, and what shows seem to repeat on everyone's lists. Thanks. **NOTE***: I'm looking for more shows that were geared towards children specifically. Meaning, I'm not so much looking for "The Cosby Show" as I am, say, a Nickelodeon show such as "Are You Afraid of the Dark" or "Smurfs." |

I watched a lot of Nick @ Nite as well, but didn't think that was what you were looking for. When I was a child I watched Bewitched, Happy Days, I Love Lucy, I Dream Of Jeannie, The Dick Van Dyke Show, etc., etc., etc.
I also wanted to put on The Wonder Years, but wasn't sure if that would count or not. I grew up on that show. |

Thanks for chiming in on this, guys.
If you had to pick a top 3 or top 5 live action shows that aired on Nickelodeon from the late 80's to 90's, what would they be? |
Re: Your Top Ten Childhood Shows?
I'm sure its old news now, PacMan2006, but I'd love to read your article.

The behind the scenes of Return of the Jedi episode sounds like it would have been cool. I can't imagine shows like these (only one of my top 5 is currently available on DVD) ever being released on DVD. Nickelodeon gave the "Rewind Collection" a brief shot, but I don't see them revisting that for less popular shows (although I'm sure Salute Your Shorts season sets would sell quite well). That's why I look at the new burn on demand programs (warner archive, amazon, etc.) as a mixed blessing. The prices are robbery, to be sure. Classic films can and should get legitimate releases. But obscure live-action and animated television shows and made-for-tv movies are a tough sale on the general public. For the shows that I am interested in, I see the window of them having any marketability whatsoever narrowing as people my age are now having their own kids and/or getting nostalgic. For other educational & PBS shows from the era, I wonder if original archived copies even exist? Is there a location that houses masters tapes for 3-2-1 Contact, Square One, Read All About It, Ghost Writers, Voyage of the Mimi, Whiz Kids, etc? They seemed to have halted the Sesame Street: Old School series after two sets. If the hugely popular Sesame Street can't float, I don't see much hope for Pinwheel or Today's Special... |

Ten internet points to whoever remembers the name of this one. It wasn't on Nickelodeon, but I remember a syndicated video game-based game show where the kids would play video games and answer video game trivia. The winner got to run through the gauntlet and snatch as many games as they could. I remember a lot of kids ended up grabbing multiple copies of not-so-stellar NES games like The Immortal. |

Wow, blast from the past!
Sorry about that, guys. I didn't realize that I had never posted the link to the article. Here you go: Top 20 Kid Shows from the 80’s & 90’s This was a tough list to compile, and will certainly not satisfy everyone, but hopefully it's an enjoyable read. |
