Another new episode tonight following American Idol

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

In the first challenge, the contestants must slice halibut into 6-ounce fillets. At the dinner service, one member of each team serves as maitre d'. Later, a contestant is eliminated.

Sweet Baby James 04-08-08 10:10 AM

We should start a betting pool. I wager that Gordon will scream "SHUT IT DOWN!!!" at the 47 minute mark.

Meglos 04-08-08 10:56 AM

I bet that the RIH-ZAH-TOE will be undercooked.

rfduncan 04-08-08 12:31 PM

I am leaning towards agreeing with this Salon article. The contestants this year really are poor at best. What was that father even doing there in the first place last week? They could have picked someone off the street who could have done a better job than him!

And I hope this episode isn't 20+ minutes of bitching and smoking outside like last week seemed to be...

SoSpacey 04-08-08 02:11 PM

So the chick who has worked with the girl's team in years past isnt back this year? I dont remember seeing her last week.

Keith6601 04-08-08 06:38 PM

She's not, it's a new chick but Scott is back to help call the guy's names so I'm happy.

Shut it down happens at the 42 minute mark.

chrisih8u 04-09-08 09:45 AM

Why is the losing team always such fuckin sore losers on this show? You lost. Get over it and stop crying about it.

I didn't want to overwhelm you so I just didn't give you anybody's orders. rotfl

DJariya 04-09-08 09:51 AM

Hilarious episode. Cannot believe what an idiot Petrozza is. How can you spend hours prepping a menu and not have any idea what you are cooking?

Gordon was a delight to watch. I loved seeing him go off on Petrozza and Jason.

I was surprised that the female dinner guest was so nice about getting hit in the head with a chair.

Jen is probably one of the most annoying female contestants on the show. I am already sick of her trash talking. I was actually hoping Corey's strategy would work for her. But, Sharon did deserve the boot.

As of episode 2, I cannot see a man winning this season.

Oh and he did shut it down around the 46-47 minute mark.

Norm de Plume 04-09-08 02:30 PM

I hope to see the ebonics ghetto girl, the arrogant tall blonde, and the portly misogynist booted soon.

Okay, who's right?

Sweet Baby James 04-09-08 03:57 PM

^

I noticed it at the 46 minute mark.

DJ's right. 42 minutes was my guess.

Still no clear favorite for me but I'd be shock if a guy made it to the final 3.

rkndkn 04-09-08 04:45 PM

Out of the guys, maybe only Ben and LouRoss haven't been shown as total incompetents yet. . .(though Louross' "make love to the fish" and other comments was weird.)

kenage 04-09-08 09:20 PM

Well LouRoss is a little weird. I am thinking though that if he chopped off the hair style people would take him more seriously.

TomOpus 04-09-08 09:25 PM

What was the deal with the early wake-up to put garbage in those containers? I noticed they had different heights marked off. I thought it might be a competition to see who could collect the most trash. Didn't look like either container had much so maybe they said 'screw it' and just moved on.

DJariya 04-10-08 01:46 AM

I know Gordon was trying to prove a point at how much food they wasted the 1st night, but I agree that I didn't understand the point of the marked containers.

shanester 04-10-08 03:55 AM

The two best lines of the night were:

"You're not really a chef are you?? You're show just a showgirl with a big feather coming out of your ass!" rotfl

"You're like a blond version of Hannibal Lecter with that tongue sticking out of your mouth" rotfl

Sharon (?) was pretty pathetic and she was even that hot either

I really like Corey and she's got a cool attitue too

That New Yawk chick is hilarious every time she tawks

McHawkson 04-10-08 08:44 AM

One thing Cory made a huge mistake when Ramsay asked her to pick 2 nominates:

“The first nominate is personal reason, blah blah waahaa blah blah…”
“The second nominate is also personal reason, blah blah waahaa blah….”

I mean seriously, she should know that when you go to work, you put your fucking personal ASIDE and work as professional. I’m glad that Ramsay decided not to pick any of Cory’s nominates. What a dumb girl…

SexualPudding 04-10-08 01:59 PM

Nominee...

islandclaws 04-10-08 02:35 PM

Pretty good episode. None of these people seem like they could run a restaurant, but they're sure damn funny. Everyone knows it's all about Gordon belittling them as much as possible. That black chick Jen needs to go, her attitude sucks ass. She should be more like Julia from last season. I love it when Ramsay throws food, like the raw fish.

Wait - didn't that "contest" show which team got to hit the yacht while the other team prepped all the fish?

starseed1981 04-10-08 02:37 PM

Good episode.

The trash wasn't the contest. It was cutting the fish and having the most perfectly cut according to Gordon's standards. There was a tie and a weighing contest was the tie-breaker.

OMG this already started?!?! CRAP! I've been missing it. This is the only reality show I like!

Has it always started in April?

Usually starts right after Memorial Day. But FOX is obviously out of new programming from the strike so they must have decided to run it ASAP.

That is a good thing. She seem like a bitch.

silentbob007 04-11-08 05:57 PM

The weakest girl obviously got thrown off ... but what is the point of the nom then (other than conflict)?

Keith6601 04-11-08 09:33 PM

It gives Gordon a look at their management perspective. How did they see who performed to what standards.

DeputyDave 04-11-08 11:21 PM

I used to like this show but caught up on all of the Top Chef episodes (I'd never seen the show) over the last year. Now comparing the contestants makes HK such a joke of a show. Its real chefs with a love and knowledge of food versus typical reality TV, conflict causing, drama fodder. There is no way Ramsey makes one of those clowns his real executive chef, not if he wants to keep even a speck of respect in the food world. He must be getting paid a bundle to even give one of these people a figurehead title.

You know there is SOME true to that, but the fact is that the contestants on Hell's Kitchen are very much like what Ramsey was like himself when he started his career and worked his way up from line cook, to one of the top chefs in the world.

Yeah, that was a slight disappointment for us, as HK became a traditional summertime treat in our house the past two summers.

Silly, but we so looked forward to it in the warm weather.......
