Steve Earl on the Tonight Show

I'm trying to get my wife to watch the show so we're currently watching season 1. Funny how they set things up so far in advance. McNulty's line about "what does somebody have to do to get kicked off of this force" got a good chuckle out of me.

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=32376962 I'm going through the Season 5 DVDs commentaries. Some pretty interesting stuff. I gotta say I'm very upset by how HBO treats their shows on DVD. No unique special features besides the commentaries. The behind-the-scenes videos were available on HBO-On-Demand months ago before the show even aired. And we don't even get the Wire prequels. :( |

Eh, look how they treated Six Feet Under... Great case, same exact DVDs, plus the soundtracks. I sincerely doubt HBO would re-author The Wire DVDs.
On another note, the first time I had ever heard Steve Earle was the season five theme. I knew Steve Earle was a musician, but I had no idea what he sounded like. It sounded cool, so I snagged Copperhead Road. I was not disappointed. |
Thanks for the clips. God I miss this show. The profile bit was great.

Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
Just watched this series all the way through again and finished the series finale last night.. Man, I know I've said it many many times (as others have), but what a great freaking show..
Also just watched Earl sing on Leno again and got chills... |

Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
I finished going through the series for the first time a few days ago, and I don't if I'll ever look at TV the same way again. It's not even the best show ever made, it's the best piece of American entertainment since at least The Godfather. Even the spotty last season came back with a vengeance in the last three episodes ("-30-" is now up there with Angel's "Not Fade Away" and Six Feet Under's "Everyone's Waiting" in terms of perfect series finales). Season 4 is the single greatest season of TV ever made, though I might still prefer Angel's fifth season.
I almost popped in my first season discs as soon as I finished, because I didn't want it to end. |

Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
I just today watched the last episode, having now seen all five season on In Demand over the last few months.
I just don't know what to say. This is one of the greatest series that has ever been televised. Never a dip in quality that befalls other series, The Wire was excellent the whole way through. It showed the drug trade from every angle; the police, the dealers, the kingpins, the suppliers, the addicts, the children, the politicians, the education system, the victims, the media. Every season had a different focus without losing sight of the main plot. Not just a procedural, you felt for every character. It was good to see so many familiar faces too. Now this is the way you end a series. It doesn't mean that everything needs to END, but at least provide something satisfying and this was certainly it. Some victories, some defeats, and even some heartbreakers. At least Bubbles was allowed out of the basement. I am actually sad that it's over. TWO EMMY NOMINATIONS FOR WRITING?!? THAT'S IT! :grunt: |

Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
Just wrapped this up and tied a red bow around it. Very good ending with good call backs to most of of the past characters. The one thing I liked the most was how they didn't really focus on any one person. They gave everyone some time to shine.

Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
I can't believe I never watched this show when it had originally aired! Been watching this on Directv's 101, and then breezing through the remaining episodes of season 4 and 5 through HBOGO. Damn what a great show and a very satisfying finale.
I really liked Bubbles turn-around (and kept hoping he wouldn't get killed off before the end). And as mentioned earlier, I was hoping for a final scene between him and Kima. Dukie's final scene was depressing. I thought there would've been a final scene of Avon in jail or something. And what happened to Randy? |
Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
Randy ended up turning hard and being in a boys home because Herc gave up his name to the fat dude eating the M&M's. Then he was known as a rat.. Remember when they went back and visited him?

Such a great show. |
Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
Respect must be paid to probably the finest show ever made, so I bumped the thread.
Just finished the final episode today. I've been going through them as fast as I could for the last month or so (less I think). I'm sad now that I'm out of episodes of The Wire. Very bittersweet. Soo happy to see Bubbles make it upstairs. Soo sad to see Dukie become an addict. He should of been part of Mike's crew, at least. Wish Omar could of gotten to Marlo. It may not have turned out like I wanted, but i'm satisfied with the finale. Great show. I'll have to revisit it down the road. |

Re: The Wire - "-30-" - 03/09/08 (SERIES FINALE)
I've been watching an episode every week since July of last year on DirecTV...finale just aired last night. Helluva show. It's probably not my favorite show ever, and there really weren't many "WTF?!?" moments for me, but almost every episode was very good. Easily the most consistently good series I've ever watched.
