Unhitched - *Pilot* - 03/02/08
http://www.fox.com/unhitched/showinfo/index.htm
The pilot didn't make it a must-see show, but it was funny enough for a second try. No laugh track, which is always a plus. Too much Freddy and not enough Kate.
The idiots behind "DUMB AND DUMBER" and "THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY" have created another hit.
Dating in your 20s is like going to the farmers’ market – if you get there early, there’s plenty of fruit, all ripe, juicy and yours for the taking. But dating in your 30s is like getting there at closing time. The remaining fruit has been sitting in the sun all day. It’s been dropped, squeezed and handled by a thousand different people.
From the creatively fruitful minds of the Farrelly Brothers (“Something About Mary,” “Dumb & Dumber,” “Stuck on You”), UNHITCHED follows a group of newly single friends living in Boston and learning the painful lessons of starting over in their 30s. They’d all love to get remarried, if they could just find their true loves.
JACK “GATOR” GATELY (Craig Bierko) is a charismatic, optimistic guy who never expected to be single again. But now that he is, he’s determined to make the best of it until he finds “the one.”
Joining Gator in bachelorhood redux are his best friends: thrice-divorced TOMMY (Johnny Sneed), the founder and brewmaster of an upstart microbrewery, who has a voracious appetite for food, beer and women; and DR. FREDDY SAHGAL (Shaun Majumder), a successful surgeon who can execute a triple bypass in his sleep, but is all thumbs when it comes to the opposite sex.
Rounding out the group is KATE (Rashida Jones), a smart, successful attorney who handled all three of the boys’ divorces. Having just turned 30, Kate finds herself dumped after a seven-year engagement and reluctantly joins the guys in negotiating the treacherous waters of dating. With Kate owning the brownstone next to Gator’s, this pair, over time, may find that “the one” is just a brick wall away.
UNHITCHED is a 20th Century Fox Television production in association with Conundrum Entertainment and Watson Pond Productions. Bobby and Peter Farrelly directed the pilot and serve as executive producers. Bradley Thomas, Brad Johnson and Mike Sikowitz are executive producers. Chris Pappas and Michael Bernier are co-executive producers.

I think this show will get pulled quickly because FOX F'd up last night.
They were hyping this show for weeks - Then Nascar runs over, so instead of cutting down the post game show they air it in full - which pushes back this show and every other show.
People like me who wanted to record this didn't get it so ratings will be poor

I do hope they re-air it. I saw bits of it and it looked like it had potential, but we had some severe weather last night and they kept interrupting the show for weather reports. About halfway through, they just gave up and went to an all-weather format. Spring must be here (although it snowed this morning.)

I didn't think it was great, but it wasn't awful either. It seemed to have strange timing for a TV show, though. I don't know how to describe it, it was like they didn't let the jokes "breathe", so they didn't have time to really resonate before moving onto the next joke. The episode just seemed very "full" to me.
Or maybe I just love to quote "words". :P

I don't think it was all that bad. Had some good laughs and one liners. Plus, I like Craig Bierko and Rashida Jones, so I'll keep watching. That Johnny Knoxville cameo was fantastic and unexpected.

I liked it more than I thought that I would. Not a big fan of Bierko, and definitely don't see him as a leading man, but I'll continue to give this a try.

I just watched it via iTunes. I am glad I just read that description in the first post-- that gave me much more exposition than watching the actual episode did. I was wondering what the relationships were between all these people and thought it was rather disjointed for a pilot episode. This seemed more like a second or third episode than a pilot since it didn;t really introduce everyone's stories very well.

After seeing the second episode, it appears they are trying much too hard to copy the Seinfeld formula with the 3 guys/1 chick friendship ring where she must escape because she's the 'normal' one.
It was an interesting idea to have the Farrelly Brothers do a TV show but it seems they are having to water-down their jokes too much for network. Maybe this would be better on HBO. Or, just stick with films.
