Supernatural -- "Jus In Bello"

"Jus In Bello"
Synopsis:
Spoiler:
FBI Agent Henricksen finally captures Sam and Dean, but is caught in the middle when a horde of demons descends on the small-town jail to eliminate the brothers. Roughly translated as "Justice in war."

Kim Manners directs.

Seem to be the last pre-strike episode they have in the can. :(

It is the last of the prestrike episodes, but from the previews it looks very promising. After this no more SN until new episodes start up again in April.

Bluelitespecial 02-21-08 10:02 PM

Wow that was actually really good.
Spoiler:
It was kind of weird seeing the higher power hunting Sam and Dean is a little girl named Lily. The higher power is the one who probably holds the contract on Dean's life. Sad to see Henrickson die, hopefully the rest of the season will not dissappoint. Btw I don't know if this needs spoiler tags, but I used them just in case.

Patman 02-22-08 08:05 AM

I busted out a LOL with the "I shot the sherriff" rejoinder.

Mysteryfan 02-22-08 10:58 AM

Dean cracks me up.

Good episode.

Yeah, I was surprised by Henrickson's death as well. They started the episode with a voiceover saying how many demons there were now and how there weren't enough hunters. I almost expected to see Henrickson pop up with a government led squad of hunters down the road.

LOVED IT was great one

No bodies shown = not necessarily dead. I suspect we'll see Henrickson again.

I hope so. I got to thinking about my idea above, and I would love to see a scene where Sam and Dean get deputized and get real badges, then have people think the badges are fakes and refuse to believe that Sam and Dean are real agents.

nice episode, very Assault on PRecinct 13

coladar 02-25-08 12:49 AM

Little late to the party, but just watched the episode. I also was certain they would set up Henrickson to become a hunter. But sorry, they're making Lillith out to be an uber-powerful Demon, more powerful than yellow-eyes. No f'ing way some FBI agent makes it out alive when he's standing a couple feet from her when she does her thing. That would ridiculously minimize her power, and it certainly seems with the whole white eye thing they're making her out to be one of Hell's major players. Henrickson is dead. Beyond dead.

CaptainMarvel 02-25-08 10:13 AM

We still don't know exactly what her powers are. If I recall the episode, Lilith asked where Sam and Dean were, and before she even got an answer, she did the whole "white flash of light" thing.

For all we know, she makes people her minions, or forces demons into their bodies, or something else. I think Henrickson probably is dead, but only at about 75%-80% odds... this show hasn't exactly been squeemish about showing characters when they get offed, so not seeing a body is a big deal.

The news report identified the individuals that died in the blast. I figured they used dental records or something like that.

It also said the two fugitives (Sam and Dean) were killed in the blast.

Good episode.

Thoughts:
- Nice to see the FBI agent back on their trail again (of course, once he supported their fight, you knew his time was up!)

- So the previous episode was a play on Groundhog Day and this episode was a play on (the original) Assault on Precinct 13. Which other movie that I'm a big fan of will be next on the show? ;)

- A little girl as the powerful demon and not some smokin' hot chick - that twist alone surprised me!

- And what about that "demon neutron bomb" spell Ruby talked about doing? I expect that'll come up again in a future episode at some point.

BTW, how does the strike affect Dean's 1-year deal? Without a whole season's worth of episodes this year, will that storyline continue into next season with it just being part of the same "year" or will they wrap it up in whatever episodes are still going to be made for this season?

No, I haven't. And given that it has zilch to do with Supernatural, I don't see how it matters.

Christ, don't get so defensive... it means that "little girl as the big baddy" isn't as original as you think... not that I think that the Blade series originated that idea anyway. Now, relaaaax.

LiquidSky 02-26-08 07:24 AM

I finally got around to watching the past two episodes this weekend.

Time is flowing differently. They could do whatever they wanted before killing off Dean. Heck, look at LOST... S4 and they've only been missing less than 2 months!

Buffy had "The Annointed One" in season 1 who reincarnates the Master. (Character would have been bigger in S2 if the actor didn't shoot up like a reed!)

There's also an evil little girl in the white room during Angel's fifth season.

MrE 02-26-08 03:12 PM

Not to mention (but I will) INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE.

coladar 02-27-08 01:09 AM

Since we're discussing other evil little girls now, if it was a rip off of anything, which it wasn't, it was at least highly influenced by the Silent Hill film. For a brief second I almost thought it was the same actress, the two looked the same, dressed similarly albeit in different colors and had the same hair.

Sorry if that seemed defensive, but my original point was that the vast majority of demons on Supernatural are hot babes, so for this show to go a different direction with a little girl was a surprise. That's talking about just this show, therefore I don't give a rat's ass if any other show or movie already did that. Supernatural is a very entertaining show, but it is not a very original show (in fact, it's quite proud to proclaim its influences anytime it can!)
